Westbrook Prison

Post by NicholasBullard (Taph) on Thu Jan 08, 2015 12:19 pm

After a group discussion between officers of active Stormwind RP guilds, the following deal is on the table with regards to Westbrook Garrison as a prison.

Contributors in the chat were: Darkios, Donovan, Falrock, Ferrius, Hex, Iriel, Marijn, Myriah, Pazzle, Rend, Taph, Tyrellius, and Vardrek.
People who were AFK during the time but still can read what has been said: Artemis, Smokey.

The floor level of Westbrook Garrison in Elwynn Forest will be used as a prison. Four groups of people will play a role in this, and below you can read what they do and how they relate to each other. I base this on what seems to be the most agreed on way to do it, according to the majority in the group discussion.

How I imagine it will be:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
A door suddenly opens and bangs against the wall as a fat, red-faced guard barges in. He barks an order to his plate-wearing comrade, even though she is just one step behind him. The old man they are escorting seems to be reluctantly accepting his fate, dragged along in cuffs by the female guard. While the fat guard opens the door to the men's room, various inmates look up; here and there a mumbled comment or a stifled laugh.

The new prisoner scans the other inmates to find a familiar face. After the guards have taken their leave to retreat to the main compartment of the prison, he sits down next to his acquaintance. "Hey kiddo, didn't expect to see you in here. Explains your absence. What are you in for?"

The younger one just grunts in response before leaning in and replying in a grumpy voice: "Regiment arrested me ages ago, dunno how long it's been." He adds in a barely audible whisper, "Did you manage to get the thing in unnoticed?" and curses under his breath when the new inmate shakes his grey head slightly. "We gotta shiv that bitch somehow before she gets released."

The younger of the two men notices others are trying to listen in, so he sits up straight and continues in a normal volume: "Well then old man, you better make yourself comfortable here. It ain't all that bad. Regular meals, a roof above your head, what else could you wish for?"

The Warden - This independent person makes sure the daily affairs in the prison go smoothly.
Prison Guard Officers - This officer of a guard guild keeps track of his guild's prisoners' status.
Prison Guards - These members of a guard guild stand watch over the prisoners and feed them etc.
Inmates - These prisoners will serve their time and fall under the responsibility of the guild who brought them in.

The Warden in more detail
The Warden is not part of any of the guard guilds, because he has to be neutral. His job is to keep the Prison running, and his responsibilities include getting food on the table for the prisoners and upkeeping the peace. Because the judgment of prisoners remains the responsibility of the guard guild who brought them in, the Warden will have no say in the judgment of prisoners.

It can hardly be expected of a player to be online the entire time people roleplay. That's why the Warden will likely take on one or two Warden Assistants to take over his responsibilities when he is offline.

The Prison Guard Officers in more detail
Each guard guild has one Prison Guard Officer who spends time at the Prison, and who keeps track of the prisoners his guild brought in. The Prison Guard Officer will arrange for one of his guild's prisoners to be released when the required time has been served. Also, when additional punishment is required, the Prison Guard Officer will be in charge of sorting it.

This can either be one person or a flexible responsibility between guild officers, that is up to each individual guard guild to decide.

The Prison Guards in more detail
Guard guilds will gain a new responsibility: Prison Duty. A Prison Guard's job is to make sure the inmates behave up to a certain degree, to stop fights and shankings, and to get a regular meal on the prison tables. Inmates will probably want to get some fresh air now and then, so a Prison Guard should be prepared to take them out on a secured walk. For these responsibilities the Prison Guards can take orders from the Warden, who manages the internal prison affairs.

Instead of making guard guild members choose between either Street or Prison RP, the positions are flexible. That means Prison Guards will come and go, based on demand. If just a couple of inmates are online, we will not need 3 prison guards per guard guild. Yet if a dozen inmates are online and roleplaying, and only a handful of Prison Guards are on duty, one of them should probably fly/ride to Stormwind to rally some of their Street comrades to go on Prison Duty right away.

The Inmates in more detail
The prisoners. They will have free access to the entire lower floor of the building, as opposed to previous cells and shackles. An Inmate will probably be dressed in prison garb, based on the rules of the guard guild who arrested him. Regular meals and gender-separate bunk rooms will be provided. Inmates will be released at some point depending on the crime they are accused of, and if so required can receive additional punishment after serving their time.

Summary
All matters between Guard guilds vs. Inmates will be handled by Prison Guard Officers, on the orders of their Guild Leader: for example releasement.

All matters between Prison Guards vs. Inmates will be handled by Prison Guards, on the orders of the Warden: for example food.

All matters between Inmates vs. Inmates will be handled by themselves, on no one's orders at all: for example grudges.

Hello everyone! People and...people alike!

So, after last nights very nice talk-talk with everyone, I'd like to state my own views on this.

I think this, could be a great idea. I really liked how everyone got involved and try to think of ways this could work.

Now, to state, the SSF are NOT trying to own everything, in non-such way.  I think Nick has done a very good job on this and deserves a round of applause. Now, how this could work, it seems some people do not want to continue with this idea and I think if you actually have an issue, tell everyone, post it, get it known.

I fully support this idea, but of course, I'm on Pazzle more than anything and I'm now trying to get my own idea a running but I suppose another view might be good. Another idea that came up was from me. I can understand that the CC is currently occupied by the Shields. But...wouldn't the CC be alot better used as a hotspot for the guards and such alike? It's just an idea, but I though I would put it out there.

Again, Nick - your a star and I like how you've written this. Very Happy

Let's make this work!

I really like the idea of this, lets hope it works when put into practice. Good new way of making prison rp more interactive, just make sure not to neglect the prisoners

To string out my view here, it seems that the warden is not being given enough power, the warden -NEEDS- to have some say over how things work, and not simply act as a figure head. At the end of the day, a warden runs their prison. The police do not. And if people want to dispute this, TBH: Enjoy asking the prisoners ''Would you like indepth prison RP, or would you like us to chain you to a wall and ignore you for 3 days?''

Thank you for your comments. From various sides I hear suggestions to improve the role of the Warden, I will implement these into the post tonight.

the warden -NEEDS- to have some say over how things work

His job is to keep the Prison running

Except he suposedly has
no say in the judgment of prisoners

Sounds like more or less anything besides the main punishment deciding is his job there.

It isn't the idea that he is suposed to have the "power" to "judge" if i understand it right. Doesn't seem like it stops him from overseeing some punishments or puting in some of his own or "running" the prision in some ways.

The way I understood consensus was:

Usually the guard guilds deal with their own prisoners from arrest till release. But as the designated space in the buildings is not ideal for this, and for other reasons as well, they can be kept together in one building instead: Westbrook Prison.

Some of the guard guilds do want to stay in charge of what happens to their own prisoners, though.

The Warden would keep the place running and make sure it doesn't become a slaughterhouse. He is basically there to watch over them until they are released or otherwise moved on, and to make sure they get treated humanely.

So the Warden and the prison is there for

a) Arrested people who have to serve some time in jail as their punishment
b) Arrested people who have to be locked up while they await further punishment/trial/execution etc.

I aim to add a section to my post detailing "What will happen in the case of a Prison Outbreak?"

An update from Darkios of the Stormwind Special Forces, who asked me to post the following words:

Darkios: I would roll with the Prison plan, If a SSF is head Warden.

Me: What would the Warden's description be? What do they do and what would be their job?

Darkios: We are Neutral to all Rp guilds, We don't arrest. The Warden would run the Prison, Thats the thing, see it as the Commander inside the Prison. He says when they get food, when they may go out, when they need to be in their jails. And the Donated Guards should listen to what he says in the Prison. If he says I want a man there, They should listen and get one there.

Me: When it's time for a prisoner to be released, who would take care of it?

Darkios: It would be done in name of the Warden, and he would say when and how, By looking at the Crime/Punishment report he gets.

Who the fuck are SSF and why do they want to be in charge of shit, that's my only question

Idea is solid. More RP for prisoners is great.

Alright there's been a change and I propose this .. with my super art of amazing imagination.. and brilliant-ness by Myself.

Let's use the stockades, since there's be mutli-cooperation by members of different and actual Guard guilds we can make this possible.

One big communal prison area which of course is covered by a barred roof and barred doors that open and close.

The rest behold my amazing Paint view of what it is supposed to be.

STOCKADES: why? Is in the city, close and actual use for it on lore... Give it a go.

You can only have 5 people in an instance at a time. Not to mention everyone having to be in a group. Using the stockades is wildly impractical.

The outside of the stockades is the floor of guards holding off a riot. It's outside the prison entrance. Thers's just a big empty room.

SSF are a new guild that has shown up recently and want to run a prison from what I gather.

I've heard bits and pieces of this and understand there is some sort of overly complicated disagreement about "who is in charge".

Frankly why do we need the discussion,if SSF wants to run a prison rp theme then let them. If they want to lay down the law then it's the choice of the guards if they hand over the prisoner or not.

Example :- The Blazing shields capture a criminal and consider handing him to the ones running the prison. They discuss with the wardens and find they disagree with the course of justice, so they can refuse to hand the prisoner over and deal with it themselves.

The regiment capture a criminal next day and decide to talk with the wardens. After a discussion they agree and hand over the prisoner to the wardens.

If running the prison is the purpose of their guild then that is completely justified and fine. Knowing nothing at all about them, their name alone suggests to me that they're another take on the "We're SI:7 but not SI:7 for some reason, let us rub our big shiny fake-SI:7 dick all over your shit". If that's what they are, then they have their priorities wrong. Do you see the SAS, the CIA, the Spetsnaz running normal prisons? Sure they might have their own thing like Guantanamo Bay, but this isn't that. "Special Services" are just that. They're not in charge of everything, nor should they be. They should be out assassinating big targets and dissenters and infiltrating cults and shit.

If I'm wrong about the guild then I apologise. Make a registry entry. Also I apologise for excessive bluntness. It's late.
