Move from SW to Gilneas?

Post by Kelgis on Tue Dec 30, 2014 4:44 pm

I know this might be a touchy subject, but I had an idea that I would like to put out there.

How does everyone feel about moving all the RP activities to Gilneas. As far as I know, it is completely empty. No Lollers, no trolls. It will be easy to spot other RP'ers, there a lots of empty houses, no annoying NPC's...

Let me know what everyone thinks

I see pros and cons, and I like the initiative!

The Gilneas Platoon intends to station a number of members in Gilneas in the nearby future. Perhaps that could be a first step towards an environment with only those considerate about roleplaying* I love you

Historicly, it tends to end with ganking, drama and bitter tears when this is attempted.

True, this could be a problem. Guess this could also be a good thing for the world pvp guard guilds maybe? Even more realism...

People have sugested guard pvp stuff before, trust me that doesn't work in practice.

One way or another though people are gonna rp where they like. Surely some are going to be interested in going to Gilneas for some reason. While in the end a good part of people are surely doing their thing on Draenor while some maybe prefer SW or some other place or go around being travelers.

But yeah a better question probably would be "Who feels like making some RP happen in Gilneas?"

Think ganking though might not be a big as an issue right now with most folk being on Draenor, then again you always got to be prepared for anything.

Pros.
No NPC's
No "disruptive roleplayers" aka. Lollers
A lot of empty space
More life out in the world

Cons.
No new Roleplayers.
Recruitment is limited > Access to Stormwind / major city general & Trade channel is prevented.
Horde WPvP Players will hear of it
Risk of Isolation from the rest of Roleplaying community (Gilneas is tricky to travel to).

***
Loller-free environment:
I hate the term of "loller-free environment". A good number of people who do not Roleplay do "Laugh" at roleplayers, because they do not understand it appeal. While i never did trolling, i used to laugh at roleplayers in my past. "Haha. Blades for Hire. What a creative name for a Mercenary group!" The irony when you think of it that i joined exactly that guild which then did swish me away to the world of Roleplay.

Do not shun disruptive elements. Take them seriously. How else will you lure more people into Roleplaying if you refuse to interact with them? If they are not gone bored and left in 10 minutes, they are possibly already hooked, which is 10 minutes well spent. If they just keep on disrupting, use Ignore or Report Player for Harassment.

Moving to Roleplay in Gilneas is not a new idea, but neither it is a bad idea. However, Gilneas is Contested, so you live on the terms that you can be attacked at any time. Get level 100, get PvP gear, get RP gear on top of it. Treat every attacking Horde player as a "Forsaken Assassin". If you are in your pretty dress not prepared to fight, well that's to bad.

Otherwise, as mentioned in my Pros and Cons, you lose access to the mainstream channels that you can use for recruitment. Also you need to bring it to people awareness that "there is Roleplay in Ruins of Gilneas", be it through forums of a macro in LFRP. However, that is also prone to attract WPvPers, so you need to be prepared to counter them.

All in all, i think that Roleplaying in Gilneas can be done. Never expect "All" roleplay to move there, because there are people who prefer to Roleplay without the risk of being attacked, thus they remain in Alliance-controlled zones. The world is also vast and wide, with many great locations to go, so an equal number of people will want to keep on traveling.

Roleplaying is where roleplaying is found. Any location can be made into a roleplaying hub, providing that you bring it to people awareness and make agreements with multiple RP guilds to head to an area.

From my own part, i would not mind to appear and RP in Gilneas if there is roleplaying to be found there. I am however only one person and will not make much of a difference if i made an appearance there.

No NPCs seems like a con to me. It's bad enough that people ignore patrolling NPC guards when doing naughty things in Stormwind.

Ganking is probably the major issue OOCly. It's not too realistic to be camped.

I think the major issue with a move to Gilneas is that it just makes little sense. Stormwind is the capital of the Alliance and is actually involved in Draenor.

Why isn't it in character? Isn't it supposed to be a war-zone? Isn't the general idea of all contested territory zones that they are dangerous to be in, and there are serious threats out there?

We did this before 3 years ago but it all went pear shaped and Ic and ooc turned into Lord of the Flies.
The idea is good in theory but in practice it's too isolated and the players tend do implode on themselves and break off into factions. It's a defect of humanity

Fighting is IC, I don't see running back to my body several times because a ganking guild is camping as RP. If you do, fair enough, but the majority of people I know do not.

I do actually vastly love the idea since I've been getting really sick of Stormwind, what with the constant lollers. But it's just... convenience. Stormwind is easy to get to, and easy to get around, and you're probably already there for an OOC reason anyway.

People who are based in SW though, should try and do their best to get their guilds on excursions to other parts of the world though to mix things up a little.

We, the Gilneas Platoon, may try and work something like this in the near future. Personally I would love to populate Gilneas, as it's one of the best RP places there is.

Can you be in Gilneas? O_O

If thought you only could be there as a Worgen in the starter quests...

Wow.... what have I missed?

Since Gilneas was introduced in Cataclysm, and in Cataclysm flying was introduced to Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms, Gilneas to was made accessible. While there are no flight path there, you can take any player controlled flying mount and get over the sea or the wall. You can also ride through the (broken) gates through Silverpine Forest. The zone have no NPC's beyond a few Sheep and other Critters.

This'll be all fine and cool untill ABOC reforms or some other WPVP guild finds out you're doing it.

SW currently has six guard guilds. I don't see how ABoC's 'ganking' is worse than six guard guilds. Tbh, to spread the RP out like butter on bread would be neat-o. Not sure if it'll work on DB though. Has been tried for too long.

Spreading RP works, but i'd personally stick to "Faction Zones" if such is done, especially if we do not speak of RP-PvP guilds and individuals that are able to protect themselves out in Contested territory.

Ironforge, Dun Morogh, Loch Modan, Darnassus coming ontopmost to my mind (as i mostly speak for the Alliance as an Alliance Roleplayer). Those are all great zones and there is no reason more Roleplaying could not be spread in there. It may just require a bit more diversity in terms of guilds.

Yeah, and they're mostly not too hard to get between those zones.
We need less Guard guilds and more concepts to get people spread out

Six? Dang.

Blazing Shields
Disciples of Light
Gilneas Platoon
Stormwind Regiment
Stormwind Special Forces

Who am I missing? Does Wild Tempest count? I always thought they are not bound to Stormwind but instead travel the land.

Technically I don't think DoL counts too much as a guard guild as the rest. Not sure why many other guilds wanted to be guardlike or having such a role which names don't even sound for guard duty.

Considering the massive backlash from DOL members upon the suggestion of not counting them as a guard guild, I'd say by way of consensus of its members, DOL is a guard guild.
