The Search for Garrosh Hellscream

Post by Baji on Sun Sep 28, 2014 12:24 pm

Note:
For the past 2 months, the Horde guilds (namely Path of Dawnchaser, Orcs of the Red Blade, Flying Bolts and Ashal Anore) have been planning a chain of events that would address the bridge between Mists of Pandaria and Warlords of Draenor in-character. I, for one, did not want to be suddenly hit with "Oh, the Iron Horde are invading" without every addressing Garrosh's escape and the events of the book "War Crimes" in-game. It has been fun, so far, and nice to interact with so many Horde RP guilds on a daily basis.

I hope others will join in on the coming events...!

I have decided to write a story of the events so that those who have missed out can read this and know what's been going on. These reports, however, are written from the point of view of my Pandaren, Baji Teabelly... feel free to add your own!

Be aware! The following reports will contain spoilers from the book War Crimes.

Part One: The Search for Garrosh Hellscream

Baji Teabelly had just become the leader of the Falling Leaf Pandaren and they were making their way back to the heart of the Horde: Orgrimmar. They had been separated from civilization the past few months and wandering Kalimdor, hoping to find somewhere to settle down. They hadn't found anything, or anywhere to call their own.

They had come to the realisation that their place was, in fact, amongst the Horde. And now it was time to bring honour back to the Huojin and do their part.

The caravan arrived back in Orgrimmar and the Pandaren settled down in the Tauren part of town. They always felt at home with the kindhearted Tauren. The Pandaren gathered and discussed the news they had missed while on the road - Garrosh Hellscream had escaped justice, rescued by Dragonmaw Orcs on the backs of Infinite Dragons and vanished without a trace. There had surely been a panic amongst the population similar to the one that befell the Pandaren when they heard it for the first time, granted a few months after it actually happened...

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Baji reads a letter about Garrosh, his trial and escape (in Pandaren)."

Master Zun had known of his escape and had already put a plan together. He hadn't wanted to worry the caravan at the time and chose to keep it to himself. They had enough troubles... and these Dragonmaw had stepped on his turf by attacking the Temple of the White Tiger.

The old monk divulged the information and the Pandaren began planning. Could they actually be of some help in finding the disgraced Warchief?

Zun had investigated the Caverns of Time, or where they once had been, now shrouded in a sort of spell... presumably to keep intruders from entering. What had the Infinite Dragonflight done?

He had also gathered information as to the whereabouts of the remaining Dragonmaw, only hearing that they had fled back towards the Eastern Kingdoms and made an educated guess that they would retreat to their former strongholds in the Highlands.

The Falling Leaf were invited to participate in the orc spiritual event of Kosh'arg and it was here Baji Teabelly, newly appointed leader of the Pandaren, would attempt to convince the leaders of the Banners to lend their aid to trying to find Garrosh Hellscream...

Part Two: Meeting at Shattrath

The Kosh'arg had been a pleasant experience and Baji got to introduce himself to the leaders, who he was most certain of, considered him an oddball, due to his poor skill in Orcish. He had enjoyed getting to know new people and experiencing Orcish culture. These orcs were very different than the Kor'kron brutes he'd been forced to endure and Garadar was a lot more pleasant than Orgrimmar...

The day after the festival, the banners gathered in Shattrath before some of them would return to Azeroth. It was here that Baji and Zun had asked the leaders to meet and discuss the matter of Garrosh Hellscream...

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Baji meets Moneyfix and Rargnasha."

The leaders gathered in a street on the lower section of the city. It was a cold night. Baji recognised a few of the faces; Rargnasha, Moneyfix, Stralow, Naeemh (representing the Dawnchasers) Grogglefoot, Abulos Sunwing... and some of them were new; Shruiken, Grim, Dareil.

Some of them were less pleased to be here than others. A few odd looks fell upon Baji. Who the hell is this weird Pandaren who can barely speak Orcish? And why does he keep exclaiming “Oh my!” and bowing? Luckily, Master Zun was by his side and managed to bring a more commanding presense than the wanderer did...

Baji started by thanking them all for coming and was greeted by grunts and nods in equal measure. He went on, and explained what he and Master Zun had discussed and explained the “plan” as such. Baji received a mixed response, some, like Rargnasha, quite pleased to get involved and hunt down the despicable Garrosh. Others, such as Grim of the Blood Wolves found the idea preposterous. How could the rabble known as the Banners achieve more than Vol'jin's shadowhunters?

Surely, something was better than nothing? To let Garrosh just fade into memory and “get away with it” would surely be an equally appalling crime.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Baji starts the meeting."

The group of leaders bickered until a plan was finally set upon. They all agreed that the Caverns should be investigated and that the involvement of the Infinite Dragons was indeed troubling... and then the hunt for Dragonmaw loyalists would take second place. Firstly, however, a delegation would be sent to Wrymcrest Temple in Northrend to gain the Bronze Dragonflight's permission...

We wouldn't want to make more enemies, would we?

Sounds like a great initiative to kick-start some RP up that will link in the two expansions.

There may be a few people on the alliance side (Myself included), who may have a character that would be interested in working with the horde to try and track down Garrosh Hellscream.

If possible, would we/I be able to join in with these events wither by using a horde alt and using imagination to pretend that it's actually an alliance character, or use battle.tags to communicate or something of a similar nature so that RP can happen between both sides in this RP campaign?

Isn't the whole point of the next expansion revolving around that? Or to put a more finer point isn't it supposed to be a mystery as to why and how the Iron Horde are coming into Azeroth and getting stuff rekt. If im not mistaken the expansion is to be mostly about the Iron Horde and not about Garrosh despite him being the one who has propped up the Iron Horde with new technology.

Just seems to me odd personally, when the primary concern would be investigating the invasion of the Iron Horde and dealing with the dangerous Warlords of Draenor, rather than searching for one lone knuckle dragger, especially when they're taking over your factions bases. Besides how would one know where Garrosh has dissappeared to, surely the Bronze Dragonflight would send people after them if it were that easy to know, essentially one would be argueing themselves as better manipulators of time/space if they figured it out before the dragonflight did.

Afaik from questioning someone reading the book as well, it appears Kairoz does not reveal himself to be of the infinite dragonflight, so where does this whole infinite thing come into it? Just seems to me that some sections of this appear to be a tad Meta.

I think it'd really just be simple to focus on the simple things, what we know and what is happening infront of us, rather than chasing major-lore characters.

I don't think we'll reach a point where we can say definitively 'Garrosh went to the Draenor of the past'. We don;t know where he went, hence we're looking to the two most likely sources of leads, the caverns of time, as Kairoz is a Bronze, and the dragonmaw, who aided in Garrosh's rescue. Likelihood is, neither knows where, and when, Garrosh is precisely. The Bronze Flights powers, like all dragons, have waned since the ending of the Cataclysm, and it's highly unlikely random dragonmaw Orc #3298 is in on 'THE PLAN'. But as Baji said, it is just something to do in the limbo before WoD.

Zaela arrives with her dragonmaw on the backs of Infinite dragons. Not that big a step to assume Kairoz is working with them.

There will still be the point of 'Oh shit, who are these guys?' when the Iron Horde march.

I believe this campaign is right about that. At this point only thing that we know of is that our tyrant ex-Warchief managed to escape. Not many warm feelings for him so let's hunt that fecker down! How could we know he popped back in time? Not the most logical place where to start looking at. Very Happy

The Wrymcrest Delegation

Baji and Abulos Sunwing had been chosen to speak with the Bronze Dragonflight. Baji, mostly because he seemed completely naïve and his innocence and kind heart might just convince the Bronze to let them enter the Caverns. Abulos, for he was a well-spoken and skilled magister. The Dragons would respect him, at least.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Baji and Abulos meet at Agmar's Hammer."

They arrived at the temple and were met by fierce resistance in the form of a Red Dragon, a warden of the temple. It seems the Dragonflights had, rightfully so, become wary and cautious of letting people within their sacred meeting place. They were eventually granted access, Baji's sincerity and Abulos way with words reaching the guard.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Hello dragon-friend!"

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Abulos clearly the more gifted speaker."

Atop Wrymcest, the two met Chromie, the representative of the Bronze. She seemed distracted and stressed. The other flights' representatives watched and listened in with interest. They discussed the involvement of the Infinites and the importance of finding Garrosh and bringing him to justice.

Chromie, whilst still her cheerful self, seemed bothered and cautious. How could they help? The Infinites were disturbing the timelines all over the place... though easily repairable, it seemed although they were merely causing a distraction. Trying to cover up their tracks perhaps? What had happened to Garrosh? Where was he? Or... when was he? Kairoz's betrayal weighed heavily on her mind.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"The Infinite Dragonflight is causing trouble..."

It didn't take all that convincing. She knew they were right and that finding Garrosh was important. The Bronze just didn't want adventurers to get in the way or get hurt. The caverns were a mess.

She warned them of what entering the caverns would entail. The possibility of them getting lost in time was high. They would need magi, and a lot of them, preferably experienced chronomancers. They would have to anchor those willing to enter in time and sustain a barrier around them.

Abulos and Baji bowed deeply, thankful for her permission and advice.

The Banners would be meeting in Gadgetzan, regardless of whether or not they received the Bronze's permission.

But now they had it, and things would go a lot smoother this way...

To Tanaris!

The Banners had gathered: Orcs of the Red Blade, The Flying Bolts, Path of Dawnchaser, Falling Leaf Pandaren, Ashal Anore and a few others. It was here they would make their base of operations and prepare for the coming expedition into the caverns.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Gobfather Moneyfix, a former Steamwheedle goblin, took great pleasure showing the banners around his former capital. The gang warfare seemingly a casual occurrence to him, while the others ducked for cover as bullets flew by, motorcycles tore up the streets and one gang threw grenades at another.

Just another day in Gadgetzan, thought Moneyfix. A smile on his face. Exciting!

A few people were injured however and the Tauren in particular did not feel comfortable in the filthy, crime-ridden town.  The orcs took it all in their stride and even began arranging brawls in Gadgetzan's very own arena.

Eventually, Abulos and Baji arrived. They gathered the other leaders and discussed what had happened atop Wrymcrest Temple. This was good news.

The week progressed and the Banners got involved with the ongoing gang war, at the heed of Gadgetzan's Baron and Moneyfix himself.

Surely some profit was to be had if one side won?

The Caverns of Time

The leaders had discussed it for long enough. People had rested and the gang war had briefly settled. Now was a good time to make a move. The mages had prepared their spells and priests their rites. There was no going back now.

Baji decided to say a few words to everyone, but they had surely already been briefed as to why they were in the middle of nowhere, stuck in the desert and enduring the heat every day.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Baji speaks..."

The young Pandaren assumed his speech went well, apart from messing up a few names. Zelda of the Dragonhold Orcs? Good job.

The Banners were informed of the state of the caverns of time and what to expect. He repeated the event of Garrosh's escape and how Dragonmaw on the backs of Infinite Dragons had stormed the trial at the Temple of the White Tiger and left dozens dead. The involvement of the Infinite Dragonflight had worried people the most, including Chromie of the Bronze Dragonflight... and that is why they were here.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"The March Across Tanaris..."

Gathered together, they made their way across the hot sands of Tanaris.  Master Zun had been right. In the place of the caverns was a mountain, towering over the rest of the desert. Those who were attuned to magic could tell from afar it was a spell as the illusion shimmered and distorted its surroundings unnaturally as they approached.  As the Banners neared the realm of the Bronze, the spell's power waned, whether from the stress of so many peering at it or the commotion that had befell the caverns below...

The Bronze were expecting Baji and Abulos Sunwing. A hole in the illusion was punctured and opened up, allowing the Banners passage into the original caverns.

Here, they met a Steward of Time, hovering by the entrance and clearly stressed and agitated by the appearance of so many... but he remembered the message of Chromie.

“What are...” the Dragon paused for thought, “Oh... perhaps you are the ones sent here to “help?” Very well... but know this, mortals... we cannot protect you here. The Infinite Dragonflight lay siege to the timelines, though we suspect it is merely a distraction for something else... like the disappearance of your former Warchief.”

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"The Bronze Warden Warns..."

The Bronze Steward explained the risks and a few select mage volunteers stepped forward. They would be responsible for maintaining an anchor in time so that they did not wander astray... forever lost...

As the banners made way through the labyrinth, the caverns swirled and shimmered, revealing periods in time that seemed... off, not quite as one would remember them, though minor. Infinite whelps could be seen being chased by Bronze wardens in these "time holes", as they attempt to repair the damage they had caused.

In the main chamber, an enormous Infinite Dragon stood, fighting with bronze drakes, easily swiping them away and to the side as smaller infinites opened up portals and disturbed rifts within the caverns. The gathering of so many mortals caught his attention as he dealt with the bronze dragons that were bothering him. He turned his attention to them...

“Mortals? Here?” the dragon laughed, turning into a tremendous roar that echoed through the caverns. The dragon cast a spell, trying to disrupt the mages, but they stood firm. A few members of the Banners attempted a few attacks but Apporus phased out of time, causing the entire cavern to shake and distort... and rifts to open. Rifts that pulled the Banners towards them!

In these rifts, the Banners fought against alternate versions of themselves in different points in history – Orcs of the Red Blade fought against themselves as the Warchief's personal Kor'kron guards and a future Baji Teabelly appeared and gave a dire warning of everyone's demise...

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Alternate Baji speaks of the death of all his friends by Orcs..."

Some groups had mages who were able to re-cast the spells, where as others were rescued by wary Bronze Dragons and brought back to Tanaris...

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Brought Outside..."

A few days went by as the Banners stumbled out of their alternate hells and wandered back to Gadgetzan. The leaders came together... they had discovered nothing of the Warchief or why the Infinites were involved. The only thing to do now was head to the Twilight Highlands and hunt down some Dragonmaw.

To The Highlands!

After failing to discover any solid evidence as to the whereabouts of the disgraced Warchief, the Banners had regrouped again at Gadgetzan and decided to set sail towards the Eastern Kingdoms.

They arrived at Faldir's Cove in the Arathi Highlands and, after a night of rest and a few dozen scouting missions, they made their way towards the home of the Dragonmaw.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Landing."

Marching towards Dragonmaw Port, they encountered a few Dragonmaw and Kor'kron loyalists and dispatched of them before setting the port as their base of operations.

News had reached the port that the Dragonmaw had indeed fled in this direction and were attempting to establish a base of operations in the Highlands and a force loyal to Zaela had seized control of the Bloodgulch and were making preparations to take the whole of their former homeland “for the true Horde.”

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Dragonmaw Port."

The Banners regrouped, rearmed and prepared to retake the town for the Horde. Rargnasha assigned squads, each with their own specific target and mission: 3 groups to smash the gates, 2 to take down the archer-ridden towers and 1 stealth group to disable the Dragonmaw commander. A few proto-drakes circled the town as well, it would be difficult to avoid them and to take them down...

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"The Bloodgulch."

The Banners marched on the Bloodgulch and unleashed their combined fury on the Dragonmaw loyalists. Fierce battles were held at the gates, Dragonmaw berserkers leaping from the pallisades and into the fray. Archers rained down arrows as people attempted to hide behind shields, stones, trees and in some occasions, dead Dragonmaw.

Breaking the first line of defense, the gates tumbled, and the Banners met the main force behind the gates. Goblins and Proto-drakes alike hurled balls of fire clumsily around the camp causing panic and chaos, but the Banners stood true and fought on and fought well.

The stealth group attacked the inn, the base of operations, and managed to capture the Dragonmaw commander, bringing the battle to an abrupt end as the remaining Dragonmaw began to flee against the overwhelming might of the Banners.

Although some were wounded, it was a victory for the Horde as the Bloodgulch was reclaimed.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Victory!"

Though relief did not fill the faces of many, as many Dragonmaw managed to escape... but where to? The proto-drakes flew off southward and the remaining warriors disappeared into the forests. Hopefully the captured commander would be able to shed some light on the plans of Warlord Zaela...

The Burning Steppes

The Dawnchasers, Falling Leaf and Orcs of the Red Blade had become steadfast allies. Together, they decided to march south to the Burning Steppes. The captured Dragonmaw commander had revealed some interesting information: the Blackrock Orcs and remaining Dragonmaw had allied... whether or not this was true, the troubling thought of it was enough to warrant an investigation...

The three banners rode south at dusk to avoid causing a stir amongst the Dwarves and made camp in the Burning Steppes. Chieftain Rargnasha and Sadok discussed their plans on the long march and spoke to the Pandaren and Tauren of what, where and how they would strike at this new threat.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Making Camp... and plans."

Blackrock Mountain was no easy target to just march into, especially not with the base of it swarming with Orcs and Ogres hell-bent on establishing their own twisted Horde and now they had supposedly thrown their lot in with Zaela... and presumably Garrosh as well, where ever he was.

Smaller groups were sent out to deal with specific objectives. Clearing out camps, destroying the barracks and dealing with known Blackrock leaders.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Ju-sin and Krogon's group strike!"

After a few successful skirmishes against the Blackrock and Dragonmaw, the Banners moved their base of operations to Chiselgrip, the neutral Dark Irons glad for the support after having a difficult time defending their camp since the Dragonmaw reinforcements arrived. It was here the banners rested but that would not last...

Rumours were spreading of a disturbance in the south. Tauren druids patrolling the skies had noticed Humans and Dwarves moving south from Redridge and Elwynn Forest. What was going on?

One night, an orc on patrol had noticed a few squads of suspicious orcs resembling Mag'har moving through the Steppes towards Blackrock. With them, a large iron wagon. These orcs were armed to the teeth and looked like they meant business. But... could they be Mag'har? What were they doing here?

Regardless, they had to investigate.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Moving on Blackrock."

The troubling mention of armed and mean-looking Mag'har stirred the Orcs of the Red Blade into action and the Dawnchasers and Falling Leaf Pandaren were eager to help. They moved in on Blackrock Mountain. Together.

Inside seemed calm enough, until they approached the upper part of the spire. Orc scouts fled at the sight of so many members of the Horde. Their best chance was to lure them inside... where the corridors were narrow and their few numbers would have the advantage against the followers of Vol'jin.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

At the entrance to the Upper and Lower Spire, a stockpile of Iron Stars was found... and armed. A Dragonmaw orc taunted the banners but was easily dealt with by Krogon Devilstep. The iron stars, however, would be another challenge.

Engineers examined the device linked up to the bombs and deciphered that the banners had approximately an hour. One hour to get to the bottom of the Dragonmaw, Blackrock and Mag'hari plans...

The split into smaller groups and entered the spire.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Baji groups up with some orcs."

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"A group of Dawnchasers and Falling Leaves try their chances in the upper spire."

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Ju-sin, Krogon, Logush and others hit the lower spire."

Time ticked by and the yells of Orcs, Tauren and Pandaren filled the spire. It was time to get out. They had not got far or discovered much of Zaela's plans, having met strong resistance in the form of extremely well equipped orcs... and some of them were indeed "Mag'har."

They called themselves the Iron Horde, and unlike their Mag'hari cousins from Outland, these orcs were anything but calm and reserved. These orcs were ferocious and determined to beat back these invaders... but they were far too well equipped to have come from Garadar.

The Iron Stars detonated, leaving the entrance to the spires in ruin. Whatever Zaela and these orcs were planning, they were not going to be able to find out yet...

The Banners returned to Chiselgrip. It was time to address these rumours of an invasion in the south... there were no mention of demons but "brown orcs" had come up a few times. At first dismissing it as possible Mag'har, it was now obvious that it was... something else.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"The Banners head back... with many questions."

Worry filled the majority of people's thoughts. It was now time to head south and see just what was going on...

Against Iron

The Search for Garrosh Hellscream had come to a screeching halt. No real evidence had been found and now with word of an invasion from the portal, and having met agents of this "Iron Horde" within Blackrock Mountain, the Banners moved with haste towards the borders of the Blasted Lands. Stonard would be their base for the duration of the defense against this new, terrible threat and the united banners were determined to face it with equal ferocity.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"The Banners gather in Stonard."

Nobody knew what these brown, well armoured orcs wanted but they were well armed, well trained and not backing down. Within seemingly no time at all, they had conquered the entirety of the Blasted Lands, demolished the Alliance and Horde defense and setup mining operations and amble fortifications. A plan would be needed, and a good one at that...

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"The Banner Leaders and tacticians make plans..."

Rargnasha Bloodmark was voted in as the leader of the campaign against the Iron Horde. Unfortunately, this caused a rift and opened old wounds amongst many and caused a split of the Banner's forces. The Falling Leaf, Dawnchasers, Ashal Anore, Painted Skulls and a few others decided it was better stick together and follow the Orcs of the Red Blade into combat.

The Flying Bolts, Shatterskull Marauders, Bloodwolves and other loose groups and mercenaries departed for Stranglethorn Vale. From there they would plan their own assault against the orcs and dubbed themselves the Ironbreakers. Although unfortunate, an attack from two fronts could possibly be to the Banner's advantage.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Rargnasha's plan."

Before the main assault, smaller groups maneuvered on the Iron Horde in secret, disrupting their mining operation and taking out some of their devastating artillery. This would pave the way for the Banners' assault on Orkil'lon and ensure they managed to gain a foothold in the Blasted Lands.

Once the stealth groups had completed their task, the Banners prepared their march on the Blasted Lands.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Moving in."

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"The aftermath."

The Iron Horde did not know what hit them! With their attention drawn to the Ironbreaker's assault on the beach, the stealth groups having sabotaged their artillery and mining operation, the Banners were successful in their reclamation of Okril'lon! Things were looking up and this iron was bending...

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Victory Gathering."

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Grogglefutz reports to Baji about the Ironbreaker's success."

Unfortunately, this victory was short lived. The Iron Horde soon turned its attention against Orkil'lon once more, calling in reinforcements and bombarding the town from the air. The Banners were unable to hold them off, having sent off smaller groups to fight the Ogres and smaller detachments of Iron Horde, creating an opening for reinforcements to move on Okril'lon...

The Banners retreated, with many wounded, back to Stonard. The roars of the Iron Horde echoed into the swamps as wolf riders chased and cut down stragglers... Suddenly, things weren't looking so good.

A barricade was formed at the border to the Swamp of Sorrows as the Iron Horde wished to keep out these invaders and focus on the Alliance and Ironbreakers attacking from the south. Artillery bombed the swamps occasionally, to remind the Banners of their failure and keep them at bay...

The Banners retreated to Stranglethorn Vale, far from the combat zone, and regrouped, getting some well-earned rest.

"Chieftain Rargnasha blows the horn of war once more."

After a week of respite, the banners regrouped under Rargnasha's banner. New intel flooded in about the stability of the portal and it became horribly clear that the only way to stop the Iron Horde... was to destroy the portal from their side. He asked for volunteers to go through.

A large number of orcs stepped forward, for rumours of this world beyond the portal being Draenor seemed likely to be true. A chance to see their home again seemed appealing to many, as did an honourable death in combat. Elves, Trolls, Tauren and even Pandaren stepped forward, believing this to be the right thing to do.

Many Dawnchasers chose to remain behind and deal with the remains of the Iron Horde and re-enforce this side of the portal. The Pandaren of the Falling Leaf chose to go in great numbers, believing in some vision from one of their shaman that "restoring balance is of vital importance" and that this would forge the Pandaren a place within the Horde.

"The Leaders enforce the importance of people staying behind as well as going through."

Abulos Sunwing was one of those to choose to remain behind, believing it may be possible to create a portal between worlds at some point and either rescue or assist those who possibly survived this "suicide mission."

A plan was formed.

Volunteers gathered.

An army, even.

The Banners would march on the Blasted Lands again... but this time, they weren't coming back.
