A search for weaknesses.

Post by Littlepip on Fri Aug 08, 2014 10:59 am

We all know World of warcraft has changed a lot since vanilla, among these changes are the removal of resistance against different kinds of elements this doesn't mean we should do this In character tho!

I'm looking for a weakness in all different kinds of creatures in world of warcraft, starting with the creatures that I personally find quite hard to kill in character, the elemental's. I am also hoping that someone would tell me how non-casters can destroy these creatures, non-casters being normal humans with physical weapons that has not yet been enchanted.

Wind Elemental: ???
Fire Elemental: Naturally the weakness of fire would be water and what makes it stronger could be wind and more fire.
Water Elemental: ???
Earth Elemental: Very hot fire can melt earth into magma or water can turn it into mud.
Void Walker: Assuming this creature is of shadow it would be Light and what makes it stronger would be shadow.

If you want a tool that will help you fight creatures ethereal, such as the dwellers of planes of void and wind, Fragrant Flowers is having a sale on Vacuumbottles! Just aim one of these magnificent jammy jars at the elemental and start sucking - et voila, presto! Bottled void or wind! If you can't beat 'em - trap 'em! Gotta catch 'em all!

If you couldn't tell that right off the bat, you need to IMMEDIATELY GO PLAY POKEMON. RIGHT THIS INSTANT, YOUNG MAN.

On-topic, I'd assume using logic would work ICly. Ex. using powerful magma to melt earth. Or shaman to speak with and calm the elements. Alternatively, destroy the bracers of summoned elementals/voidwalkers to banish them/free them back to their plane.

Alternatively, yes, buy Agathea's pokeballs Very Happy

VACUUMBOTTLES.

They're very different.

...

As in, they're more like the ghostraps from Ghostbusters than the pokéballs from Pokémon.

X shoots a rock towards Y, Y melts the rock into magma with fire magic. Y now has molten lava flying towards his face.

Young padawan, this is easy to understand.

Rock beats scissors, scissors beat paper and paper wraps around rock in a sweet warm caress of love.

But ultimately shoving a broom up an ass wins regardless which form your hand takes.

It is not that hard.

Except the broom. That thing hurts and will most likely be covered with shit at the end of it.

This may be the best thing I've ever seen on these forums.

By philosophical oppositions: (important for magical considerations more than physical)

Earth is countered by Wind
Wind is countered by Earth
(stagnancy versus motion, solid versus impermeable, grounded versus enlightened)

Water is countered by Fire
Fire is countered by Water
(capacity for change versus desire to change, life-giving versus life-destroying, purification (both))

Light is countered by Void
Void is countered by Light
(selflessness versus selfishness, light versus dark)

Though in WoW, Light, or rather Holy, traditionally cannot be resisted and so would be potent against any element. Likewise, Chaos (evey element in one) is typically unaffected by resistances and so is also potent against any element.

Physically, one can take inspiration from Chinese philosophy:

Wood parts earth;
Earth absorbs water;
Water quenches fire;
Fire melts metal earth;
Metal chops wood.

(one can assume wood and metal would be folded into earth for WoW elements. Air isn't included in this hierarchy though)

What can non-casters do about magical creatures without enchanted weapons? They can get enchanted weapons. This is WarCraft, a fantasy setting. It is very standard in fantasy RPG settings (like DnD) to require a +1 (the absolute most basic enchantment) weapon to fight magical creatures. Enchanted weapons are not some rare, hard-to-find object. They are things you get by walking down to the mage district and browsing the Enchanting shop. Any adventurer worth his weight in salt would be sure to get a magical weapon before setting out to adventure, especially if he knows he'll be facing magical creatures that are likely to be immune or at least highly resistant to base steel. If you want to be a non-caster without an enchanted weapon, then you're a non-caster who should probably not be going adventuring, because as any DnD group will tell you it's always great fun to wack at a magical creature with your non-magical weapon and do zero damage every turn.

Beyond enchantments, one can look into material properties, as a weapon made of a potent material can have traits mimicing magical weapons. One can assume that ghost iron is a semi-magical substance and somewhat common as it would be the material currently sitting at the top of the arms race (the most powerful modern armor and weapons are probably made out of ghost iron or an alloy that includes it, just like how wrought saronite was used large scale by the frontline forces of the Alliance and Horde during the time of the war against the Lich King.). Like enchantments, this would still be more expensive than your standard steel blade--but a standard steel blade is pretty weaksauce with all the enchantments and superior materials out there. If you don't want to get enchantments, then this would be the way to go. Of course, it's best to get good materials and powerful enchantments.

Because ice doesn't freeze water on it's own, water on the other hand melts ice on it's own.

Technically that would depend on several factors.
The volume of ice compared to volume of water.
Temperature of the ice compared to temperature of the water.
The temperature of surrunding air.

Physics 101!

Fire and water is also not always one sided in every case.

Also this is in one ingame book:

Remedial Magic 101: Tips from the Pros

- Fight fire with fire! Just because a monster's body is completely made of flames doesn't mean that your fireball spell won't work. Give it a shot! The results might surprise you.

If you find it useful or not *shrug*

Which is kinda what I was getting at, while not being as extensive as that. More often than not (read: Unless there's usually some extra chemicals involved), it's all about the surrounding air.

Pouring water on ice can and will make the ice melt faster, given that the temperature is correct. But neither are efficient against the other, unless the air allows it to be.
