Hello to everyone :)

Post by Nithenoel on Tue Apr 15, 2014 1:11 pm

Hi,

I am new to the server and to this forum. After a long break from WoW, I recently used my free character boost to create a night elf druid named Nithenoel on this lovely server Smile In real life I live in Germany, am over 30, married, kids, and work as a researcher in natural science. I started playing WoW shortly after release and have some experience playing on a RP-PVP server. I also play pen'n'paper RPGs since I am 15 or so.

I am really looking forward to take part in some RP events and I would also like to join an RP guild that accepts casual players. I wrote a small background story for my druid that is attached below for everyone that is interested. Most guilds I found in the registry section are either mercenary/military or noble themed. I don't find that too fitting for a druid. Is there a guild that is still active and suited towards a young druid that wants to explore the world but is not motivated by money or fame and loathes the idea of unnecessary fighting?

Anwyay, I am pretty sure I will have a good time here.
Cheers and happy role playing Smile

Here the short intro for my druid:

It was a lovely summer evening in Nightheaven. A bright half-moon on a cloudless
sky painted the glade and the surrounding woods in silvery blue.
Dendrite Starblaze was sitting under a tree cross legged, his breath as calm and
soft as the warm summer breeze that tickled his skin. His thoughts in complete
stillness, he expanded his mind over the boundries of his own body, feeling the
slow, rhythmical movement of the trees in the wind, hearing the heartbeats of
the different animals that made up the wildlife in moonglade, and below all that
the constant, slow drumming heartbeat of the earth itself. Suddenly, a shreaking
noise cut through the stillness like a rusty knife through a baby kitten.
"What the...?!" Dendrite exclaimed stunned, as he was nearly knocked over by the sudden
return to the confinement of his regular five senses. Then, more annoyed then
surprised, he said "Nithenoel...".
He got on his feet and moved swiftly over to one of the nearby hutches that
seemed to be origin of the abysmal noise. Inside, a young women, not older than
400 years, her hands dirty with a black substance, kneeled over something that
resembled a wooden chicken that hobbled clumsily over the earthen floor of the
hutch, producing a squeeking noise with every step.
"Nithenoel, what in Elunes name is that thing?"
The young women looked up in surprise. "Oh, master Starblaze..." she said
guiltily as she tried to hide the arclight spanner in her hand behind her back.
"This is a... ehm.. mechanical chicken. I bought it from a gnome I met in
Darnassus recently." "Whatever it is," shouted Dendrite, "turn it off!"
Nithenoel leaned over and flipped a switch on the chickens back... which
apparently did nothing to stop its cacophony. She turned the chicken on its side,
made some adjustments with the arclight spanner, and finally the mechanism
failed completely, black smoke rising from the interior of the beast.
Nithenoel sighed. "I spent the last two weeks fixing it, and now I have to start
all over again..."
Dendrite shook his head in annoyance. "Nithenoel, you are a druid of the Circle
of Cenarius. You are responsibile for the wellbeing of our people and of the earth
itself. When will you stop wasting your time with such... nonsense?! Your are
not 200 anymore! This childish behviour will not be tolerated anymore by the
elders!"
"But master Starblaze!" the young woman argued. "I spent my whole life in
Moonglade, studying the teachings of the ancients. But since the foundation of
Darnassus, I have met so many people and heard so many interesting stories.
I am just curious what the rest of the world looks like. And a bit of couriosity
can't be bad, right? After all it was couriosity that lead to the discovery of
the Well of Eternity and thus to the foundation of our own race."
"And that same couriosity made our ancestors exploit the wells power and nearly
eradicated all life on Azeroth!" Dendrite said angrily. "Have you learned
nothing from studying the lore?"
"Well, you can find bad things about everything if you look hard enough."
Nithenoel answered. "But that doesn't mean..."
"Hush!" he interrupted her. "Untaimed couriosity is a dangerous emotion. As a druid
you have to be able to control your feelings and focus on the important tasks.
It also means sacrifice. We are the guardiens of life, after all." After a
moment of silence he adds "A bit of handy work will help you clear out the
clutter of thoughts that plague you. I guess master Malvor could need a helping
hand in the herbal gardens. You should go to sleep now. He will expect you at
five in the morning."
The young woman sighed. "Yes, master Starblaze."
Dendrite Starblaze turned to go but stopped in the doorframe. "By the way, what did
you pay that gnome? You don't even have any gold."
"Well," Nithenoel replied, "he just wanted some of my hair." She turned her head
and released the knot to which she had bound her hair. Dendrite noticed that it
was maybe half as long as it used to be. "He said, he wants to use it for some
lifelike female robot."
"You gave him your...?" Dendrite shook his head in disbelief. "Good night,
Nithenoel."

He walked over to the nearby lake, glancing over its shimmering surface. He took
a deep breath and exhaled slowly, frowning.
"Weren't you a bit hard with the girl?" A soft female voice behind Dendrite
asked.
"I don't know, Tajarri," the druid answered, not surprised about the womans sudden
presence. "I just don't know what to do with her. She is so stubborn. She simply
doesn't understand what it means to be a druid."
"Maybe it is you who needs to understand..." Tajarri answered.
Dendrite looked at her, frowning. "What do you mean?"
"I mean that maybe it is time to let her go, to let her make her own..."
"She is not ready, yet!" He interrupted. "She would get in serious trouble out
there. She is not ready."
"Sometimes, life is a better teacher than any one of us." The woman replied,
putting a hand on Dendrites shoulder.
Dendrite closed his eyes.
"You remember when we were young? We used to sneak out at night and meet in the
woods. Once you tried to impress me by showing me how you can shift into a bear,
even though your teacher had strictly disallowed you to shapeshift without his
supervision."
"Yes, I remember." Dendrite answered. A smile appeared on his face. "My
teacher needed three days to undo the transformation completely."
Tajarri chuckled. "Maybe after so many centuries we just forgot how it is to be
young," she said.
The two stood there motionless, glancing over the moonlit water.
"You could send her to Pandaria." Tajarri said after a long moment of silence.
"Hm...?" Dendrite replied like somebody waking up from a dream.
"The pandaren have a rich history." Tajarri continued. "From what I have heard,
they are very like minded to us druids. They also had to suffer a lot from the
intrusion of the alliance and horde forces to their lands. Studying the recent
and ancient history of the Pandaren will certainly teach her a lesson about the
importance of balance for the preservence of life."
"I don't know... Maybe you are right. But what if she gets hurt? I could not
live with that, knowing that she was not ready..."
"Nothing you teach her will make her invincible." Tajarri ran her fingers
through his hair. "Good night, my dear." She turned away and a moment later a
large crow flew away from where she last stood.
Dendrite sighed and went to his hutch.

The next day he visited Nithenoel at the herbal gardens where she kneeled tearing
out some weeds.
"Good morning Nithenoel." Dendrite greeted her.
"Good moring master." She replied.
"Listen," Dendrite began, "about yesterday..."
"I promise I get rid of that chicken as fast as possible, master." Nithenoel
replied hastily.
"No, it's not about that." Dendrite said. "Even though I would be glad if it
never disrupts the silence of Moonglade ever again." He could not suppress a
feint smile at the corner of his mouth. "What I wanted to tell you is... maybe
it is time... it is time for you to leave Moonglade."
Nithenoel went paler than the moon on a moonless night. She gulped. "You mean..
you mean you are expelling me from the circle?" she asked as if she had secretly
known that one day her behaviour would lead to this.
"What? Oh, by Elune, no, no. That is not what I meant. You are going to
Pandaria." Nithenoel's eyes widened. "You are going to study the history and the
culture of the Pandaren. They are very like minded to us druids, and they have a
rich and ..." he continued but was interrupted when Nithenoel leapt forward and
and hugged him.
"Oh thank you, thank you, thank you, master! The Pandaren! Of all the things, I
have heard so much about them! The one dwarf I met told me they ride huge
flying serpents and their architecture is one of the most beautiful in whole
Azeroth! Their monks have developed a unique style of martial combat, and..."
Dendrite cleared his throat. Nithenoel quickly let go of her master and looked
down shyly, straightening her master's clothes.
"You will not engage in any kind of dangerous activity. You will keep yourself
out of any trouble. You will go there to watch, to listen and to learn. Don't get
involved. Libraries and Pandaren scholars are your friend. They will teach you
all you need to know. Is that clear?" Dendrite said.
"Yes, master Starblaze." She replied. "Of course."
"You will also keep practicing your meditation and we will meet once a week in
Moonglade so I can monitor your progress. You can use the mage portals to travel
forth and back quickly," he continued.
"I understand." Nithenoel answered. She tried to keep a straight face but could
not hide the excitement in her eyes. When she went to her hutch to pack her
things, a wide smile danced on her face.
Dendrite watched her, frowning.
"So you let her go?" Tajarri asked.
"You were right. It is the right thing to do." He replied.
"You know that she will probably not stick to the libraries and the scholars, do
you?" She asked.
"I know she won't." Dendrite replied.
"And that she will probably get into a lot of trouble?"
"I am certain of that."
Tajarri looked at Dendrite and smiled.

When exploring the world (on a pvp server) it is almost impossible to avoid "unnecessary" fighting.
...Or does it prove necessary to fight, and protect yourself and your comrades...?

The only guild that I know of that doesn't like fightig ánd travel every now and then, which is a rare combination, is Path of the Dawnchaser. They are a guild of harmless horde fluffsikins.

If it's night elf role-play you're looking for, maybe try Nature's Grasp. To my knowledge they don't leave elven lands too often, but they're definitely very very elvish.

If it's whimsical fun and adventure you're after, look up the Band of the Brave and travel with them for a while. Zaney adventurers get up to all sorts of shenanigans, and often travel around. There is absolutely room for a mild-hearted druid with a casual player behind the wheel.

Welcome to the server, I hope this post was of assistance.
Cheers!

Thanks a lot for the kind replies Smile

@erwt: of course self defense is a solid reason to fight. druids are no stranger to combat. every elve had to stand his ground in the third war and living in moonglade, we all had to rescue squirrels in hyjal after the cataclysm.
What I mean with unnecessary fighting is raiding enemy cities, especially considering the tensed political climate after the fall of hellscream. Or killing enemy players that are doing quests to help the pandaren. The latter is most likely not content of any roleplay action, but mercenary/military themed groups where there is a lot of emphasis on fighting are not my (druids) cup of tea.
Thanks a lot for your suggestions, though. And really nice drawings there on your deviant art page.

@calisar: I most probably will Wink

It looks like Nature's Grasp will be the right guild for you.
