(A) Battle Mage's

Post by James Ryder on Sun Mar 16, 2014 2:15 pm

Hello everyone.
I made this post mostly to speak of Warmage's (Battle Mage's) which are almost unknown to most players.
So to sum up the class Warmage you can basically look at the "Modified classes" in Warcraft Lore.
Paladin = Priest + Warrior.
Death Knight= Necromancer + Warrior.
So the Battlemage would be - Mage + Warrior.
What is really diffrent about them is they mostly do not use offensive spell's meaning they don't run around tossing fireball's and creating arcane explosions but use their magical power to improve the weapons they use. For Example- Creating a Barrier on their shield to block off a powerful spell.
Since i'm quite interested in this new aspect of playing a warmage i was thinking of starting a Order about it.(Not set in stone)
So this post is basically asking you how do you react to this new class and would someone be rping it in the future if i make a guild about it?

There's a warmage section in ordo arcana. Instead of making a new guild, perhaps whisper or pm eldiros and arrange something?

Get a mage. Wield a sword.
You are now a battlemage.

Wellsworth that's bullshit. Anyways i hate RPing a Mage but A Warmage is a new concept. While Mage's are mostly RPed Wrong and made too powerful Battle Mage's would be quite realistic.

Role-playing a "battle-mage", a class that is not available in-game, is more "realistic" then role-playing a mage?

Please elaborate. I'm curious what makes you feel that way.

i didn't say that roleplaying a battlemage is more realistic i said the way you can RP a BM is.Most Mage RPer's don't follow Rules that Warcraft Lore Has they just follow the OOC world made for being the God of Azeroth.Take the Mana system for one.

You don't consider "mana" a part of the lore?

I do recommend making a guild-less order. Present-day Death Knights and Paladins are spread among various guilds, even if they follow the teachings of their "orders".

Otherwise, go for it and spread this Battle Mage idea of yours around. Looking forward to encounter them while roleplaying.

Wellsworth i'm talking of how Mage's Run around blinking all day and never feel tired which is quite godly since even Blink is a spell and a powerful one.
Also thank you for the comment Inran looking forward to RPing with you but for now my pre-paid is over.

I'm just wondering where you get your ideas from. I've never encountered anyone that considered Blink a powerful spell.

I role-play in the environment as it is presented to me. That environment is one where sorcerers rapid-fire shards of ice from their fingertips, one where warriors can leap great distances and reflect magic with their shields, where people drive giant steam-powered robots and where death is but a revolving door.

Warcraft is a highly magical world. It's everywhere, there isn't a class in the game that doesn't use it, and it is highly integrated in any facet of the world of Warcraft as it is presented to us.

I always find it best to role-play in the world and become part of it, rather then try to change it's nature.

Yeah as Inran said a gulidless order would be fine, I got a mage character though i can barely RP the few chars that I have as it is. Do get what you mean though! Though when you say new concept do you more mean new to your or new as in few people RP then or something?

If I ever manage to level a rogue, I'm totally playing it as a spellblade. That shit is dope, yo.

Uh.... god of wha.....
I dont think you have seen many mages secondly there you consider the rileplayer may have gems enchants ? Which is also in warcraft lore.
Mana, magic core is often considered but magi who knows their craft are preoared for such limitations for them to avoid be placed in danger. People are not robotic or a programmed system.

But im really curious to see what you consider limitations in magic rp.
But do you also know theres ways to not suffer these consequences heavily ?

To mention magi in lore are also people of intellect and power

Mana is taken often for once for twice. Your mention of "most" is invalid. Battlemages as you say they dont stop being mages thry have the sane as any other mage study too
I dont know what you mean by realistic on a fantasy roleplay but id be curious to seee your guide of how to be a mage on your stand point

Thirded. Fun over realism please..

Slighty on the same topic, Does warcraft lore support a "spellshot". Some one that would use some kind of enchanted bow to shoot arcane arrows.. or something like that. Hunter+mage.

There is nothing that is going against it atleast? Would be fun to see that nontheless, could even conjure the arrows! That would be cool to see! Oh my lawd yes! Bring it! On another topic, I did see a spellbow some time ago, cant remember who that was.

I knew someone who played one, He played it very well infact. It seemed like an actual class from the RPG or something. Had no idea if it existed. I forget the IC name of the character though, But I know he was a Blade for hire.

Isn't [Arcane Shot] one of the hunter's most basic abilities?

Everything in Warcraft is infused with magic, even the classes that might not seem it at first glance. Hunters fire arcane-infused bullets or arrows, Warriors reflect spells with their shields and show superhuman strength, rogues vanish and teleport...

If anything, playing a hunter without magical abilities is the unorthodox thing to do, not the other way around,

I didn't forget them, I just gave the most obvious example. Traps and the likes can be seen as mechanical, a giant arrow on the floor as an interface feature. There's not getting around the fact that Arcane Shot is a magical ability.
