This is a huge step, nay, a giant leap forwards. I can't wait for those models. (even though the overall improvements probably will make my laptop useless for pvp/high end pve).

If rumours are to be trusted, a few pages ago 'twas mentioned that Blizzard would add a graphical slider for this too, so you could switch between old and new models. Understandable in your case, insan...well, let's say odd in others, if someone would actually like old models better than this. Fuck nostalgia, old models have looked like hot trash so far when compared to the new stuff.

Your post did make me think about other graphical improvements. Guess there isn't anything that neat that they could add into the engine anymore, without breaking it completely. Ragdolls would be the best, but that would make BGs a complete nightmare (from a techincal PoV, otherwise it could be hiiiilarious to see folks flying around.). Speaking of bodies, seeing effects of spells on bodies could also be neat, even though some fire ones and such could make up for pretty grim visuals. Anything else you lot can think of?

Proper windows? Mirrors? See-through clothes? Bendy grass? Dance Studio? Stuffs?

That's probably good.

Gotta agree that the new models kick the old ones' asses too. And soul? I bet Tarchan the panda has twice as much soul as all my other characters. He's adorable.

Blizzcon screens imply Dance Studio will be released in the Garrison.

So no. Hardly trolled.

Blizzard is having weird responses to the critisism on the human female.

There seems to be a trend where, when blizzard is confronted with sexist design choices, they are left without an adequate response. Blizzard usually comes across very professional in dealing with all sorts of criticism on the forums and twitter.

Ok well this is taking all sorts of weird turns, so I'll just close this thread by saying there's no commentary here on anything outside of the game, nor should there be. This is the original model launched with the game with more polygons, higher resolution textures, and better animations. That's our goal, and we think we're creating faithful reproductions of the originals.

They ought to fire the emo git for his hissy fit.

Seriously though, the job of Community Manager must be one of the most unthankful jobs in the videogame industry. Everybody hates you and you probably don't get payed diddly squat for all the emotional torment you have to endure. I wouldn't be able to stay cool under such heat; who could?

Hell no. I'd be posting gifs of slapping people all over the place. 90 percent of the questions they have to deal with are also eye-rollingly dumb.

Buuut...

I think some of the criticism regarding the new models is kinda legit.
What we have here is an old model with so little detail people could fill in the blanks themselves. I think blizzard always intended those blanks to be filled in a certain GI-Barbie kind of way, and have now come closer to their original vision. But now there's a whole slew of people who had envisioned "her" otherwise, and they're speaking up.

Blizzard was aware of exactly this problem and saw it coming a mile away. The Community Manager should have been the solution.

This one failed.

But that might just be because there could not possibly have been a chance of success. In that case, he's doing the only thing he can do: acting like the firefighter and preventing the hate from burning down the forums and what legitimate discussion they might have fostered.

Indeed.

I just wish we'd get an update on the actual website for the new character models.

I don't understand, what's sexist about these models? If anything they seem to be quite muscular.

I honestly don't get it either? If anything it's the same build as the previous model but with more tone/definition to muscles? To be honest they're doing a damn fine job with the tech/engine they have to play with IMO, if people want a wide range of physiques per race and more overall variations they'd need to look towards ESO/GW2 or other more recent games that have that figured in from the start.

In this case, that meaning that I personally don't think the design is terribly sexist, but when blizzard is faced with the allegation, they don't have a strong response ready, but seem evasive and a little clumsy.

It stands out to me because generally blizzard is very good at community management and feedback.

Like Thelos said, that job must be a miserable one in some ways. From what I've seen during my time of playing WoW, some players (read = most of the idiotic community) wouldn't be pleased even if you gave them free gold and months of gametime. So tinkering with something like new models...rough times ahead, no matter what you say or do.
