I feel like, when me and a few other kids in primary school found a smelly porn book in the yard. And we just sat and giggled and prayed the naked ladies would find clothes (catholic school).

In otherwords, HEHEHEHEHE THIS THREAD!

Well, people have been prodding me about this in-game and on Skype, so after  obvious demand, I'm going to look into another entry here.
(Sorry, don't have one right now. It'll come. I promise.)

Next stop will be Gilneas. I heard they got furries there.
Thank you for your support.

I don't think the point of the thread is to find -good- rp.

Of course I'm trying to find good RP, the best RP. The best of the worst RP!

Where the hell is Surwich anyway?

It's in the Blasted Lands. It's a small village with Gilnean architecture.

Well, I'll imput a short entry here.
I did go out of my way to get in contact with the Gnomish Rescue Squadron or whatever their name was-

In my usual fashion, I don't ask for directions when it comes to people. I stalk them down. Yeah, that's right. I'm a fucking stalker when I want to find someone. I /who their location, then I purge the entire zone for them, repeatedly refreshing the /who to make sure they've not left the zone.

Why do I do this? Because it gives me something to do, it's (mostly) harmless fun.
Anyway, the five of them that were present were in Elwynn Forest, I dreaded the fact that they may have been in Goldshire, but I cast the though aside for starters- as I realized I may be dealing with a bit more serious people here. Given that Paia has experience with the group too, strengthened that.

Anyway, I can't fly on AD- so scouting for people needs to be done on ground, which is far more time consuming. I began searching the top of Elwynn, going from Stormwind to the Lumber mill, down to the watch tower below it, towards the murloc den. Once I got there, I saw two demonic portals. One on each side of the tiny river bank just above where the murlocs are located. The one closest to me was purple, and the one on the opposite side was green.

I could see from the name of the tooltip who it belonged too, and it matched my guess- It was one of the Gnomes. However. I didn't know which direction they had walked, as I was not familiar with which gate spawns by the warlock and which is the one he casts out. In my unawareness, I contacted Siegmund for assistance- He was unaware but decided to aid my cause. During the time it took for him to get the information, I had traveled along the big river that distances Duskwood from Elwynn. Once I got my answer, I had nearly forgotten which gate was pointed in what direction (Didn't take long, just have a bad memory), and I had been so busy in my search I had almost covered the entire left side of the region.
Saw some people outside Northshire standing in two straight lines, all humans, all in the same clothes. I don't know if I found that very impressive. More so perhaps creepy, they were like 20 people + the leader. I stopped to observe them a little but they seemed like your typical military guild. Meaning, largely uninteresting.

Anyway, now I knew where these folks were headed. Give the direction of the portal, it was only logical they didn't stick to the roads and the fact that they didn't use the bridge means they were no doubt headed for Redridge. Taking haste, I crossed most of Elwynn swiftly, on foot. Once I got near the Watch tower by the Lodging Camp/Lumber Mill I was caught by surprise.

They noticed me, before I noticed them. Shit. That wasn't planned. I could even tell one of them Waving at me. Abort mission!

However, the biggest surprise was yet to come.

I ran away. Once I noticed their attention turned elsewhere, I started to stalk them again. This time, trying to keep out of view.
Using my monk abilities to roll from tree to tree before they could notice me, while trying to keep out of range so they'd not get alerted.

I observed them entering Redridge, and I followed suit. I noticed that these people were really badly transmogged, two of them not transmogged at all- and they had... pets out? Pets? What..? I'd not be surprised had it been mechanical pets or something that you'd expect a Gnome to have, perhaps a bunny or something y'know. But no, these people had very varied pets.
I though, hey, maybe they just like having pets out, but even then I found it really weird.

I decided to simply dive into it to get a better understanding of the situation, and went up to talk to them.
Apparently, they were out hunting pets for a pet tournament every other week.
Now. Ontop of their lack of transmogs, and their general lack of care for what would be a logical pet to have- this... Relaxed, calm, uncaring RP they seemed to have. I can't really describe it well, the whole nature of their RP.
It just... No. I'm sorry, I just can't get my head around it. It's like an entirely different universe. I felt like a complete alien. Or maybe they were the aliens. I don't know.

I inquired upon events that Paia had told me about, but I don't really recall much of what was said, it wasn't anything of importance.

I really wish I could explain this event, but I just felt so distant from all of it that it was hard to focus. I tried being friendly, but honestly I just felt too strange around them to give them any real RP from my part, I just responded once here and there and gave them vague answers because I just felt like I wanted to leave.

I mean, they didn't seem like bad people, it's just that their RP was just so contradictory to everything I experience on Defias. I don't think it's a understatement if we'd classify ourselves as Elitists, if we were to compare ourselves to them.

After very little talking from my part, and lots of chattering from their part with each others, and very little attention payed by me- we strolled into duskwood.
Strolled into duskwood. Went into the woods, completely uncaring for any dangers whatsoever.
I was so baffled. I don't know why I expected anything else, and I'm not sure I did, but seeing it in your face just felt sort of unreal.
This is the sort of quality I SHOULD be expecting from people, because not everyone is as "hardcore" as the people here. Not everyone loves to read lore and tailor the characters around it, not everyone gives a shit about if Onyxia has died five hundred times and should be stone cold dead in Lore, along with the rest of the Black Dragon Flight, etc.

But to see it up close, is just so strange.

I've been told there's better Gnomes (By once again, Paia) within the guild, so I may still give it another chance, but I'm not gonna keep my hopes up.
And yes, this entry I was actually looking for quality. As some, if not most of you know- I really like Gnomes, and finding a group that actually cares for Gnome RP is something I really want to find.

I think I had hopes that it would not be what I had expected it to be, and when those hopes were betrayed, I just simply had troubles handling it. That other Gnome RPers, more so Gnomes in a Gnome focused guild- just don't care as much as I do about the Gnomes and the lore surrounding them.
It's incredibly selfish, but yeah- I can't really help it in this case.

Perhaps not as strong a entry as the last two, but an entry none-the-less.
I still got plans for Gilneas, when and how I get there we'll see. Not having flying is really hampering where and how I can get around.

Interesting. As much as I agree with the judgment over military guilds(most of them make little sense within context, being most of them asking to be  of a a particular race, mainly human, and all have their own cliques and inside drama) I'm quite a bit baffled by the comment you made about quality.
First of all, it's always kinda hard to  judge things without a real inner sight: I've been on AD for months, rping actively, and I still can't say I know the server, wasn't it for anything else than the sheer number of people. People have their own stories and what a char does or chooses, taken outside of context, it's hardly understandable.

Secondly, the 'quality' is a quality hard to define by itself. What is 'rp quality'?  What is 'lore abiding'? What is 'breaking immersion'? Wow lore is a mess: aside some clearly stand out points, the whole of the details, on which most of the rp is based, is very much out in the air up to interpretation. Most people(even on DB) take for granted things that simply can't be taken as such: how many times I've seen the debate 'But Gilneas now is under siege' or 'Gilneas now is taken by the Alliance' and so on. Truth is: we have not the faintest idea, since Silverpine questline has Crowley leaving Silverpine and Ivar getting to kill Godfrey. Nothing is stated. On the other side, things only touched by lore, or taken by other unofficial sources or interpretations get taken as a rule: again, how many times I've seen the debate 'but dks can't feel' or 'dks can't do anything but fight' and so on(even when the lore iself shows the contrary). I'm taking examples close to me for discussion's sake, but I think my point is clear: what's lore abiding? Do we have to abide the player made lore or the only the Blizzard official lore? Since by lore(nothing on it says the contrary aside 'common sense') and game mechanics we can go around with a huge spectral porcupine, how can that break immersion? How can that be, as they there call it, 'bdrp'?

This said, I understand your pov: on AD I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... or maybe you would. The place has great peaks and great depths, as much as DB, with the difference that people are a lot many more and, in a positive way, more simple minded about the rp, most of the times.

Somewhat this's become a Thelos' post...

Well, yes. But at the same time, this is all from my own POV. From my own perspective of RP.

It might be harsh to judge people as "worse" or "better", but it comes off as very "unprofessional".
Perhaps I should call them inexperienced, rather than bad.
It's not that they're doing something bad in itself, it's just that My perspective of roleplaying is far more serious than the tone they put in it, and because of that it clashed horribly. The fact that I had no idea how to approach such a lot didn't exactly help in the matter. I tried to "degrade" myself to "Their level" (That sounds really terrible too, but I got to speak from my own perspective of experience here.)
But I fucked up from the very start. I went in and tried to adapt to their RP, instead of just playing my own game and tweak my RP to be more lenient towards theirs.

I shouldn't have approached in the way that I did, and I should've approached as Coppersocket, not as a test character that barely knew which foot she was standing on.

Something I've learned from this experience tho, Copper's disabilities are really important to her characters now. At least at the moment. If she finds a way to get around them, then maybe not so much anymore. But Copper can never be "one among the group". She's just her own being, and I just can't RP her in any other way.

Half the time I just felt "Fuck, I wish I could restart, and bring in the BD version of Copper for this."

Lesson of the week: Be more careful before approaching, and plan it out a little bit ahead.

Edit: In the end, this is my "Diary", therefor it'll be expressed by my standards of Roleplaying. They're not exceptionally high, but I do count myself a decent Roleplayer at least, and not everyone will fill those standards. So those people are viewed as lesser, in this regard. That does not mean they cannot improve however. There's also to consider I may also just get a bad glimpse of people, but this is first-impressions only, basically. So views will be quite harsh on those I do not deem up to snuff.

As much as I like a few individuals in GRS I can't actually bring myself to play in that guild all that much. Part of this is a more general malaise with the Warlock class which I just haven't enjoyed playing since Wrath of the Lich King.

I don't think I can put it down to just not liking playing my class, even though actually playing the game and getting a feel for how Blizzard have set up the class is quite important to me. I tend to enjoy playing quite "formal" and "understated" characters for want of better words and I just don't fit with the hyperactive zany "SPANNERS!" RP that many Argent Dawn Gnomes seem to go for. I can't really bring myself to condemn it or say it's any less legitimate that my own Roleplaying, it's just not really my kettle of fish.

I'm not sure how active they really are but I've heard good things about Phlogiston Fist and Cogsworn Order with regards to having slightly less zany "SPANNERS!" stuff. Eldritch Covenant look pretty good too, though they're not actually a "Gnome Guild" just a guild lead by a Gnome.

Apart from not being able to murder people while out in the world my big problem with Argent Dawn is how fractured the community is. It has many many Roleplayers but they're all in different bubbles which don't really interact with one another in any meaningful capacity. Far more so than Defias Brotherhood. This makes any RP I do there feel kind of limp and stilted, which is made worse by the over-abundance of very bland (mainly)human characters who seem more interested in Roleplaying some relentlessly grim medieval historical fiction than they do a character in the varied and colourful universe of Warcraft. I find it hard to get my characters find anything or anyone to really care about.

The horde side has similar issues but at least have some racial variety beyond the entirely predictable over-abundance of elves.

I do really like the ease with which one can find Roleplaying on AD. I just find it hard to find any storyline, no matter how small in which I become invested in.

Edit: Kind of related to the discussion in the Server Lore thread, AD Roleplayers (many but not all) despite the often quite vocal desire to enforce the "Lore" on players don't seem to actually want to RP in the ongoing Warcraft story. They seem to Roleplay their characters as if the actual game world (and the game itself) is some kind of vague inconvenience. Deathwing/Pandaria/Garrosh/blizzard storyline of the day, is something many of them acknowledge but they would prefer it to go away even when it's something as uncontentious as Pandaren existing.

Ok, found this thread and honestly my first thought was "For f***s sake more bashing on AD?"
But as it turns out I was wrong, it was a very enjoyable read and the first thread I read from start to end (I have a slight reading problem so that says something).
Copper, very good job on this thread, was interesting and gives others ideas to maybe write down a journal of their own here, thinking of doing so myself to be honest.

Now, I've been actively on AD, mostly horde but some alliance and I must say I can agree on quite a few points. People do sometimes RP in their own little worlds and the cathedral square is...packed, but compared to what AD used to be it has cleaned up ALOT.
I do recommend people who are "tired" of DB or want a different scene to go to AD.
The horde side of AD is a bit more solid, you can find random RP, it's not guildbased RP only, people are always friendly OOCly and you can find it in all corners.
I myself made a guild of nomads because I wanted to bring friends on a neverending trip (troublesome idea I know) to search the world, I myself have played since vanilla but haven't explored everything after Cata struck, pluss it would give a good chance to seek out some hotspots for RP.
Was suprised to see the activity of Razor Hill (And no it's not the horde Goldshire) and how many people you could get involved with, and Bloodhoof has taurens walking around and some orcs being shamans and naturalists...or whatever.
It took me 10 minutes in Razor Hill with my Belf (Elves weren't ICly populare there, elves are often RPed as arrogant pricks so that is their reputation) but I found people who liked my views on the rebelion and my ideas on how to improve.
Funny thing was that I predicted the end of Garrosh and the next warchief before the latest patch, ofcourse some orcs told me to F off since "No troll will lead the horde!" But it was still all very enjoyable RP and I made both IC and OOC friends.

I'm not speaking against what Copper has been saying, by all means, I once cought 3 female chars...and a horse...doing some stuff *coughs a bit* but I digress.

There are good people and guilds on Alliance aswell ofcourse, but seeing as DB was my main ally RP spot, going horde on DB was a very nice change.

Again loved the read Copper.

Right I'll try get to Gilneas within the coming week, I finally could afford flying in ass-eroth on AD. Not that I've been actively playing on it or anything.

Hopefully I'll have something good to report.

Well since I didn't ever get to Gilneas, I've been playing a ton of Champions Online lately with buddies. While I haven't been RPing there, I have been stalking Roleplayers in their hub Club (Goldshire) Caprice, here's some bios and scary people for you:

I find the interfaces surrounding those character profiles even more jarring then the characters themselves.
