A statement from the Cult of Shadow in response to Eramas of Brill's letters

Post by Diederich on Tue Jan 15, 2013 5:11 pm

This letter has been pinned up across the Undercity and surrounding lands. It has also been sent to official notice boards, newspapers and settlements across the Horde.

Dear brothers and sisters of the Forsaken Nation and of the Horde,

THE FORGOTTEN Shadow has received an attack of unfathomable magnitude under the eyes of the entire Horde.

We heed all members of the public to ignore this dogmatist who has set out to disturb the religious atmosphere of the Undercity.

The text published across the settlements of the Horde is riddled with discrepancies and errors.

The Cult of Shadow has reason to believe this is an attack intended to defame and bring negative publicity to the orders of the Forgotten Shadow.

The antagonist is a name unknown to the religion. The Cult of Shadow - who have served in Brill for years - do not know Erasmus of Brill.

The Cult has never attempted to indoctrinate the Forsaken people, and not once has it forced its ways on any. We are built from volunteers, who step forward into our holy circle to better themselves and the space around them.

We acknowledge that the majority of the text is a lacking fairness, is unbalanced, inaccurate and subjective. It is in our interests to highlight some of these texts as proof of our claims:

Clergies of all faiths through historical examples can be classified as an opportunistic and malevolent force, constantly seeking to undermine secular authority and implement radical ideals into the minds of the desperate and lost.

This is a direct attack on every single priest within the lands of the Horde and we urge that it is treated as nonsensical as the claim is. While agendas, corruption and ailments plague all wings of society - implicating every single priest and priestess within the Church of Forgotten Shadow, or any religious organisation, is not feasible. We would hope common sense could dictate the truth here.

In my experiences throughout life and undeath I stumble across this faith as a disgusting and vile perversion of spiritual worship, much akin to the Forgotten Shadow as preached by the Prophetess Antistia.

Here the author compares the Cult of Shadow to Scarlet Crusade, whom he mentioned in the previous paragraph. This seems like a bizarre and absurd claim, with absolutely no evidence provided in the text. We encourage readers to ignore this claim - the Cult of Shadow is a small cell of the Church of Forgotten Shadow, and not akin to the crusade in any way. It would seem the author wishes to tarnish our reputation within the Horde - for what reason, we do not yet know.

Worship of a faith does not require clerical elite to guide or interpret anything for any of us, after-all, in the original writings of the both Light and Shadow, where is it written that a clergy must exist? Where is it written that Prophet’s shall come? Simply put, it is not.

Never has the Cult of Shadow stated or implied that in order to worship the Forgotten Shadow you must follow our exact doctrine. It would seem the writer mentioning this would imply that the Cult are acting as this "clerical elite" or advocating it. We would like to point out that the author has made an error here and is in fact misinformed. Evidence to prove otherwise is welcomed by its concerned administration. We believe our reputation to the Azeroth-wide races of the Horde is clean enough to prove that this is an incorrect statement by Erasmus of Brill, whoever he may be.

We, as intellectual and developed races and societies may choose any path we wish to walk without a robed creature leering at you in the distance or whispering in your ear – I implore you, I implore you all, re-evaluate these two great cancers that have taken root in our societies and drive them out!

As mentioned before, our associates are volunteers, who have answered their own callings to serve within a clergy. This subjective, slur-ridden use of language does not resemble any truth or fact. And we would like to point out that being compared to a cancer is a statement which we do not believe is wholly justified and is severely lacking objectivity. But we understand the flamboyant choice of words has been designed to give a certain impact. We urge you ignore this incorrect statement.

On the whole, this text has been an unjustified attack on the Cult of Shadow, and one that should be promptly dismissed of any factual information. We are proud of our trust-worthy and reliable reputation within the Horde and hope our actions of the present and past prove that.

We hope to bring out Erasmus of Brill for a national debate on this topic, and we trust he can provide an explanation for this unexpected outburst that he felt the need to spread across two continents.

With great respect,
Darkcaller Diederich Northcliffe

Pinned underneath the letter on one of the notice boards in Lordaeron is a one line reply:

Explain your gruesome inquisition

*Pinned underneath the pinned message on the notice board is a new reply written in a neat, even handwriting.*

What would you mean with gruesome inquisition? Our Inquisition watches over those that follow Shadows way, so they do not stray from the right path, which they have chosen willingly to follow and made an oath to do so. We are merely sheperds, keeping an eye on the flock. Never has the inquisition handled without reason and outside of the Cults ranks.
What you see gruesome in this, is quite honestly beyond me. Does the Warchief not also keep an eye on his people in the Horde with the honorable Kor'kron?

Sincerely, Lord Inquisitor Drazhk Sorrowwind
Cult of Shadow

Pinned underneath is a response:

Any Forsaken who condones what the Warchief does is a traitor to the Forsaken Nation! The motivations of the Cult have been blown apart by their very own "Lord Inquisitor" - Torture, death and destruction awaits all those who disagree with the insane worshipers of the Prophet Antistia. We shall all be 'guided' by their Inquisition.

This poster would have been ripped down by the Kor'Kron

((I suppose any Kor'kron in UC reading that message would rip it off as soon as it is read, and start a witchhunt on the writer. You can't deny they are still standing on every corner of the city Wink ))

((If it is written in common most people wouldn't know how to read it, since not even most Forsaken would be able to or have forgotten. Smile And I'm sure they would investigate even an unknown language for them, afraid of things being said that are against the warchief, the way they act now. So that would probably mean that most notices and messages in other languages would get ripped off asap.))

((
Let us not get too pedantic over language and who could read it, when there is bigger lore-skewing rp ongoing at the moment with the Eversong plague storyline. It is acknowledged a number of times in game that Garrosh would come down heavily on UC were there evidence of plague, he would like any excuse to deal with Sylvanas. This isn't the first time that a certain guild has used a plague, I recall battle at Thoradin Wall where a dilute form was openly used in front of Horde forces. I saw no consequences that time either.

Excellent piece of writing, Vangrel, very well argued.

And a final point, not all forsaken forget their past and not all orcs are stupid mace wielding meat shields.

((I think that discussion would be more fit in the other thread about the plague, not here. And, indeed, not all Forsaken forget their past, hence I used the word 'most'. Smile ))

Walks by the original statement in Brill and removes the extra pieces of paper that are attached beneath it and places one single note,

"Eramas of Brill has yet to step forward and declare himself publicaly against our politics. If he fails to do so within three days we must assume this person does not excist and has been made up by a third party.

~Deathbringer Dunderholm of Ambermill"

**EDIT**

Over the previous note this is now placed,

"Eramas of Brill has failed to comply with these simple terms and we The Cult of Shadow, hereby declare him made up. A fanthom of someones imagination. We advice all forsaken to regard his posts as a form of proganda with the purpose to devide the forsaken nation

~Deathbringer Dunderholm of Ambermill"
