SI7 - Operation: "Dead Insurgency"

Post by Jayse on Tue Feb 22, 2011 4:02 am

(This is a bit of a narrative following of event's as to what SI7 has been upto in gilneas recently with thier actions preceeding the upcoming campaign. Will be updating this OP gradually)

Operation: "Dead Insurgency"
With the alliance war command rallied to answer the horde activity in a bid to make a push on the northern front, SI7 was summoned to offer assistance. It was assertained the biggest threat facing the alliance battallions were the siege engines laiden with forsaken toxin. The battallion would be moving to the northern front in the coming days and if these wagons were left untouched, they would almost certainly be sent to greet them. A simple objective, locate and destroy as much forsaken hardware stored in enemy territory before it can be utilised in counterattack.

18th February - Gilneas City
1st Dagger Team landed on the far southeastern shores via gryphon. They were to meet with the remaining worgen resistance whom having a good layout of the land and unorthodox tactics to match thier own would be a valauble asset. Gryphons landed in good light as instructed so as to not be mistaken for hostilities however it was already growing near twilight and there was no sign of the resistance, and SI7's lacking knowledge of Gilneas itself left Dagger Team to find any vestiges of life.

The city itself being the largest landmark was the first point of call. The weather although light rain at first suddenly turned sour as the skies ripped open and flooded the streets, reducing visibility to near impossible. As far as they were aware, they were alone..

19th to 20th February - Gilnean Territory
1st Dagger Team found thier way to Keel Harbour through the monsoon and took refuge as a temporary location, collect thier wits and to enquire with the locals as to the whereabouts of the resistance. The locals responded with caution yet some met in good form. The resistance arrived shortly after and with thier help discussed the current situation of the territory and the forsaken front beyond the Greymane Wall. The Daggers had only the supplies carried with, packs laiden mostly with Seaforium demolitions. It was assertained the forsaken had set themselves up nicely on the silverpine border just outside pyrewood village, having been pushed all the way back by the resistance efforts.

Dagger Team wanted eyes on to see for themselves what they would be up against; with help and guidance from the resistance they headed north through the woodlands to reach the wall and enter hostile territory..

The forsaken looked to be encamped with a very good setup. Patrols, Dark Rangers, Abominations and lines of operational siege laying in wait. A perfect target to test thier reactions to a little prodding. Under the cover of twilight 1st Dagger Team and the Resistance moved through the camp, marking choice targets with Seaforium charges. By the time they went off the forsaken didn't look to know what was going on, and scattered into action. Quick scouting groups were formed and every able dead corpse moved in every direction. By this time however the small covert strike force were already nearing the wall back into relative saftey. Three and Six camped on the wall that night to watch the reactions, as Four and Five fell back to Keel Harbour with the Resistance.

21st February - The Forsaken Front
It appeared the prodding woke up the beast. Overnight the forsaken had extended patrols into the harried Pyrewood Village. If they deciced to move thier whole operation with and got themselves dug in; flushing them out would be difficult. The village offered a strategic advantage and with it the bridge across the river. Destroying the bridge itself would not be an option, but offering the ghost of uncertainty in the village was with thier remaining supplies.

Under the cover of dusk 1st Dagger Team moved across the river laiden with the last of thier supplies and infiltrated the village. A forsaken patrol was already in the village and sweeping the buildings with plague canisters to arm. However they afforded themselves to be taken care of quietly and the Resistance secured the village for a moments respite. It would not be long before the patrols were missed; they set to work rigging the corpses of the fallen and choice areas along the road with explosive traps. At one and a half bells in the morning, the Harbour echoed with the distant thunder of Seaforium. It worked, but to what extent is yet to be discovered..

23rd February - Checkpoint "Castle", Gilnean Territory
A full day had passed before 1st Dagger Team were able to get back near the Greymane Wall. A severe stormfront had swept over Keel Harbour and infact much of the territory itself and given the wilds of Gilneas it wasn't the conditions to move in nor infact await thier supplies which were currently en-route via air from westbrook garrison.
They needed a relativly secure location to setup a small encampment. A small mining village on the river and close to the wall itself was a strategically sound option; dubbed checkpoint "Castle".
1st Dagger Team arrived at early dusk and swept the village which had looked to have been in the hands of the forsaken forces during previous conflict. However all that remained were damaged buildings and the rainsodden banners of occupancy long abandonded; the unmistakable sound of rotors rose to earshot. The air cavalry had arrived finnaly..
A landing zone in the village square was marked out with bright red flares as the gryocopters made the drop-off, then banked and returned due south.

Thorium Grenades, 50kilos of Seaforium, rifle ammunition, broadhead arrows; they were well taken care of and in addition, backup in the form of 'Seven' from 2nd Dagger Team and with him, a transport configuration Gyrocopter. 'Six' never did trust Gryphons.
1st Dagger Team, now five men strong took light supplies, re-armed in blade, bow and rifle before heading through the forest to check the results of the Seaforium triggered ambush.
Crossing the bridge in relentless weather they stopped halfway and fanned out in trident manouver. Ther forsaken were present, and they were investigating in numbers that far outmatched thier own and with the shrieking cry of alarm they were spotted flanking the village, covert advantage lost and engaged loud in direct combat. The small ruins of pyrewood erupting in the clash of steel, gunfire, frantic orders and calls of contact from all sides.

1st Daggers held ground for as long as they could, but the sheer weight in number of the forsaken presence with the sudden influx of reinforcements from the front reacting to sudden battle left them little option but to retreat for thier lives. The five man team limped firing across the bridge and marsh from cover to cover. Forsaken infantry marked in the ground eventually gave up the chase.
With forsaken now dug firmly into the village across the river and with thier presence now known. Any chances of slipping past to the front to attack the primary objective, although resupplied were dashed amid acrid green toxin as the swamps were fogged by plaguebearers.
They needed another plan.. and they needed one fast..

24th - 26th February - Checkpoint "Castle" - Gilnean Territory
1st Dagger Team retreated back to checkpoint "Castle" and regrouped for a days rest considering thier options. They were now directly cutoff from the frontline and moving through the toxic swamps so soon would be suicide. They had no choice to wait it out until the forsaken had lowered thier aggression on the conflict zone, and allow the toxins to dissipate.

They had plenty of potentail firepower sat there at the checkpoint doing nothing and after some musing and checking through thier supplies, "Plan B" was underway..

Plan B was simple, Four, Six and Three set to work dragging the gyrocopter to the mine for shelter as a makeshift workshop. The supplies were brought out of the rain and Four's Engineering skills were put to the test. They stripped the gyrocopter down to its skeleton chassis removing any unneeded weight, skids removed, exhausts shortened, the engine was re-tuned for additional torque amid sprays of welding slag. They then started work on reconfiguration and worked long into the night.

By the next evening they downed tools. The gyrocopter previously transport configuration had been crafted into something wholly different to Four's specification. Dubbed "Airworg" was a baby blue, heavy loaded, fully torqued, airborne weapons platform with enough makeshift potential firepower to rival the Skybreaker. It was thier last ditch attempt at thier objective and if it didn't shake itself to peices in the air, it was going to be thier saving grace.

27th February -1st March - Pyrewood Village "Objective Banshee" - Forsaken Occupied Territory
1st Daggers and the Resistance setup along the Greymane Wall waiting. It was last light and then plan was laid out, awaiting execution.

The forsaken had ceased the plaguesweeping, allowing the swamps to be navigated quickly without too much risk. Objective Banshee had eyes on with an arial scout before a fammiliar droning of rotors swept overhead. Airworg lead the assault in a hail of suppressive fire from longrange, covering the swamps in a smoke screen as the attack began. The ground teams moved in and under the cover surrounded the village as the Forsaken had thier gaze to the skies.

The battle to follow was one of direct shock and awe. Guerilla fighting from building to building under the shadow of ordianance churned in hail from overhead. The Forsaken however were ready. The Shattered Hand had learned of Airworg's construction and although hadn't time to strike at Checkpoint Castle, they were dug into the village with RP-GG's.

Airworg's purpose had been served, but it's life shortlived as a well aimed rocket proppelled crossfire sent it spinning over the village before crashing into distant farmland. Along with it's pilot.. Now a prisoner of war in Forsaken hands.

2nd March - 3rd March - "Fenris Keep" - Forsaken Occupied Territory
The attack was successful and the Forsaken pushed back to the frontlines. The resistance armed with SI7 munitions carried on to decimate the main objective before falling back.

1st Daggers had a new priority, a man down behind enemy lines. "Six" was however found first by the Shattered Hand before they could reach him, being unconcious as he'd managed to ditch the Airworg in farmland to the north away from the battle. He was taken captive to Fenris Isle; a known Forsaken Cult stronghold deep in hostile territory and on an island with good view from all directions. The "Wraithlord" Sulthar would play host for the evening with his own brand of hospitality.. Sleep deprivation, physical torture and rounds of questioning carried on long into the night. "Six" had barely enough fight left in him to hang on the chains, let along withstand this. Certain death.. or worse.. Undeath.. looked to be a stark reality.

The next day was a haze. Falling foul to exhaustion and his physical state "Six" opened up, or appeared to. Giving them just enough of the half truth to point thier eyes away from the events to come before he finnaly passed out and was left to hang. However, lucky for him.. help from an unlikley extended hand came in the evening. A Sindorei horde operative, Peral took turn to question a broken man resolute to his fate. "Six" mumbled through her questions with a little remorse.. for reasons to her only, she made good to craft his release covertly.

By this time 1st Daggers had tracked him to the keep and were making ready for a quick execution. Sunset drew over the forest, Four soliders and a shadowpriest stormed the keep with conviction, fighting thier way to the dungeon where "Six" was most likley held. He was still alive and leaning against the staircase half lucid with a pistol in his hand when Mandui found him, as the rest of the team held cover she dragged him with. The Wraithlord in pursuit until they managed to get airbourne with due haste.

The keep soon dissapearing through distant foliage. Three signalled ahead and took point as they neared "SI7 basecamp" Hillsbrad. The operation overall, a success.

The Wraith Lord is not amused with the lethal effectiveness of these individuals, they may prove to be a problem D: However, that said... if you Ever need a proverbial Doctor Evil to your austin powers, do call.

We're checking the results tonight of the village, so if you want presence there, get there sir Wink Point of making these IC operation threads is so people know what's happening and can get involved if they wish in any capacity ^^ and it will be part of the story!

(ofc if it makes sense of course :p)
