[A - Worgen] The Greymane Era

Post by Gunnell on Thu Oct 07, 2010 1:19 pm

Name: The Greymane Era
Faction: The Grand Alliance
Races:
Classes:

--------------------------------------------

With the end of the Gilnean Civil War, the people of Gilneas are scattered and in a state of awe. For over a decade they remained isolated from the rest of the eastern kingdoms to be suddenly and brutally flung into this new age of war of cataclysmic proportions. Many would chose to walk in the shadow of their ruler and travel with him to the kingdom of stormwind, others have taken up on the offer of a new home given by the ancient kaldorei atop the colossal tree Teldrassil, especially those who have found truth and knowledge in their druidic teachings or merely grateful for assisting their people. There are those however who would not be so quick to abandon their homeland easily and under the leadership of Lord Darius Crowley strike back in a guerrilla conflict against the vile forsaken upon Gilnean and Lordaeron soil.

There is little doubt that the closing days of the Greymane Era are the darkest for all of Azeroth yet non more so than the Gilnean people. Despite this, no matter their whereabouts or profession, the gilnean people remain steadfast and unwavering in to their country, unwilling to simply allow themselves to be a diluted people like their former sister of Lordaeron. From general to soldier, from the lowest peasant to the wealthiest noble, the people of gilneas will stand together until their homeland is reborn from the blood of those foolish enough to stand against it.

-----------------------------------------------

The Guild
The Greymane Era is for all intents and purposes an attempt at uniting those who intend to play a Gilnean/Worgen character upon the launch of the Cataclysm expansion pack. Now, let us be realistic for a moment here - We can all foresee a swarm of worgen guilds appearing during those early days and weeks, many, many, people have and will decide to try their hand at guild leadership upon noting such successes of single-race guilds as Dwarven Rifle Squad, Orcs of the Red Blade and so forth. This guild was created to be our 'line in the sand' if you will, in order to prevent a swathe of these guilds and ultimately leaving a broken, scattered community that finds itself skulking in the direction of that bloody cathedral. Indeed this guild has been in planning since last year from a dedicated group of roleplayers. Several of you may remember the <Royal Gilnean Order> and <The Greydane Syndicate>, both of these guilds were clearly on a collision course due to competing goals. This new, much grander concept, is the product of of both our guilds (as well as other such idealists who had their own ideas for guilds). In this way we wish to become -THE- Worgen roleplaying guild on the Defias Brotherhood server. Whilst you may go on to praise diversity until the cows come home, we feel that this single, unified, guild will prove to be far more beneficial for the roleplaying community.

Community
In our minds we prefer to see this guild as a community with the added organisation and social benefits that the guild mechanics provide to us. With this in mind our 'community' takes a rather free formed stance in terms of what route people may take with their characters. In most aspects the characters will be catered for whilst leaving that door open for a path that their character can take outside of the main road. For example one of our 'groups' will be based around the remaints of the gilnean armed forces; given the nature of the military you can expect this grouping to be very 'clean cut' with authority, a chain of command, etc and whilst this main to be the mainstay of your particular character you are not fully restricted to this. For example they may, say.. opt to join a smaller, niche, grouping that members (not necessarily officers) have formed such as a house or family in order to add that extra layer unto their roleplay. The point here is to provide a fine balance between allowing a good amount of freedom in the options & progression available without having so much freedom that it becomes confusing, scattered, etc, with each person declaring themselves Lord of the Buckingshire Family consisting entirely of themselves, trying to lord over others. Ultimately this comes down to common sense and finding that correct balance.

World PvP
World PvP will of course play a major part in the guild. The Gilneans are a scattered people at the time of the cataclysm. As grim as this might be for the poor buggers themselves, this provides us with a massive scope and freedom in where and what we can become involved in. For example whilst the Kadorei are all but exclusively limited to northern kalimdor the gilneans have established territories within the kingdom of stormwind, their new 'home' upon teldrassil (with screenshots showing gilnean regiments fighting alongside the sentinels) and of course the ongoing war between the Gilneas Liberation Front and the Forsaken raging across Gilneas and Lordaeron. The possibilities are great indeed.

Interaction
The Ruins of Gilneas as they (thus far) appear in-game are similar to New Avalon after the completion to the Death Knight quest chain in that aside from a short forsaken quest chain within the country, for Alliance players at least the kingdom is entirely deserted yet open. This essentially gives us a huge roleplaying sandbox for us to use how we wish. From Greymane Manor to Stormglen-.. err, maybe not Duskhaven, the sheer scope of how we might turn this kingdom into a haven for roleplayers away from the mutant lesbian werewolves of the cathedral square and OOCers of cities in general. That is not to say that we will restrict ourselves purely to the Kingdom of Gilneas of course, the people of greymane now have holdings across azeroth from the blasted lands to felwood, however we hope that a short while into the expansion pack that Gilneas will play host to much roleplay from storylines to large-scale WPvP conflicts.

--------------------------------------------

GROUPS

Upon joining the guild, you will be presented with several options in how you wish to take your first steps and progress within the guild. There are several groups for you to choose from although several will be restricted based around class (a warrior choosing to join an enclave of magi mould make little sense for example). Some of these are very open in regards to who they accept (Warriors, Rogues, Hunters and other fitting characters within the armed forces for instance), whilst others are more clear cut and obvious. Below you will find a brief description on a number of the groups that will be available however do remember that this is by no means a complete list:

Royal Gilnean Army

Classes:

At the end of the second war, the kingdom of Gilneas proudly boasted one of, if not the most powerful armed force of humanity. However, since the closing of the Greymane Wall the Royal Navy was since decommissioned, its Army split by the Northgate Rebellion and then all but destroyed as the Worgen Curse ravaged the country. Despite this, its ranks have always favoured training and skill over sheer numbers thus the Royal Gilnean Army still remains a powerful faction in the battle for the northern kingdoms.

Originally its armies were formed by ranks of platemail clad footmen designed for conflicts taking place outside of the kingdom however the ensuing civil war has since seen a drastic shift from disciplined formations of soldiers, to guerrilla tactics of ambush and accurate volleys of musket fire. This much more 'balanced' approached to warfare serves well given the vastly diminished numbers of its forces, and that they now fight on home soil.

Whilst initial impressions by both their allies and foes would take them for a savage, insurgent, fighting force the Royal Gilnean Army still places a high enthuses on discipline - Armaments are plentiful and well-crafted. A Gilnean formation, whether it consist of worgen or human soldiers is an impressive sight to behold. Footmen and Horse Guard take the helm of any formation, followed behind them are the famous Gilnean Blackcoats, their equally renowned muskets proudly shouldered.

A soldier often enlisted after being plied with drink by a recruiting sergeant in a public house. Having ritually "accepted the King's silver", he was however allowed from twenty-four to ninety-six hours in which to reconsider. However the ever worsening state of the country has led to a massive influx of willing volunteers, preferring to volunteer for training and sufficient equipment rather than conscription into a militia force. Depending on their prior trade, experiences or perhaps (officer willing) by request, the volunteer will be assigned to a position their superior feels best suited, whether this be a platemail-clad Footman or Blackcoat sharpshooter.

OOC:
The Royal Gilnean Army are (as you will no doubt have guessed) the prime military wing of The Greymane Era. Whilst the Onyx Tower and Moonfang may contribute to the on-going conflict in their own way, the Army serve as the largest obstacle in the path of the Forsaken & Horde invaders. Those who are interested in this type of roleplay, with the unique twist of being a Worgen (or working alongside them should your character not be cursed) can do no wrong in enlisting.

--------------------------

The Blackfang

Classes:

The Blackfang are those Gilneans who see the Worgen Curse as something to be embraced and used to their advantage. They do not actively seek a cure, with many amongst its numbers seeing it as more of a blessing and some as one from Goldrinn. The Blackfang are not entirely lost to the beast within them, instead seeking to balance themselves at the very edge – Their remaining humanity serves them as well as their new found prowess for combat after all, making (in their view) a Blackfang the ultimate predator. Whilst Holy men and the blind would see their new forms as an ailment a Moonfang knows it is anything but; honing their senses, reflexes and granting them greater ability in combat than any mere human could know.

The majority of Gilnean druids are Blackfang who take it upon themselves to lead their pack by following guidance of Goldrinn, and yet the bulk of its number consist of those who share the common view that the curse is something to be embraced; from soldier, trapper to scholar.

The Blackfang are distrusted and scorned by the remains of the Church of Gilneas and many of their countrymen with the Moonfang’s beliefs both of a cultural and religious nature going directly against those of the church; fearful that their new 'allies' would try to convert the population to follow the ways of Elune and destroy Gilnean tradition.

As an offset of their animalistic tendencies, the Blackfang have since become a pack, similar to that of Ivar Bloodfang, closing themselves off further from their countrymen making them territorial and xenophobic with regards to their new allies in the Grand Alliance (with a possible exception of the Kal’dorei). The Blackfangfang are still Gilnean however, it is still their home and Genn Greymane their King and as such they still answer his call and that of their country. They serve independently of the Royal Gilnean Army although it is not uncommon for a soldier to follow their beliefs as well however in contrast to the much more disciplined, rank and file sections the Blackfang act more as a militia, preferring guerrilla tactics, literally fighting with tooth and claw over traditional platemail armour and fine steel.

OOC:
The Blackfang are those Gilneans who would chose to embrace their 'curse' rather than try and suppress their more animalistic tendencies - This would appear to be a popular character choice when it comes to how people will roleplay their worgen character and thus the Blackfang grouping is designed to accommodate those players. This group shall be replacing the Tal'Dorei Circle (Druids) group so that those who would prefer to roleplay a more savage, animal, pack like Worgen (See Ivar Bloodfang) have somewhere to go along with the druids also fitting nicely in as well. This is not to say that your character cannot be one of the Blackfangfang yet primarily be a member of another grouping (Such as the Army) of course, but this group is for those who specifically wish to make this their main character trait.

------------------------

Oynx Tower

Classes:

Following the teachings of the Quel'Dorei since the days of the Troll Wars, Magi are no rare sight within the human kingdoms and Gilneas was no exception. Paranoid of Dalaran and the Kirin Tor whom he saw, Genn Greymane was unreceptive of the magical kingdom, seeing their 'enforcments' over magic as little more than a way to weed their way into the belly of other nations including his own. As a result of this the majority of Gilneas' arcanists were tutored only within their country. Since the curse was unleashed upon the kingdom and their new alliance together with the Kaldorei, the magi have falling out of standing, looked down upon by many. Non the less, their talents are still taught and practiced, the arcanists of the kingdom now being needed more than ever in the conflicts to come both in Gilneas or elsewhere.

OOC:
The Oynx Tower is a group based around offensive spellcasters. Primarily focused on mages, warlocks are still permitted to join however their.. 'talents' are expected to remain hidden least they receive a less than friendly welcome from their peers.

-----------------------------

The Faithful

Classes:

Led by the Reverend Mother Marilissia Casilia, The Church is based on the virtues of the Holy Light and the belief that one day the Curse of the Worgen can be lifted. Whilst the Church views the curse as just that; a curse it does not stop them from using it to their advantage. Whilst other sections of Gilnean society take the Kal’dorei intervention with good light, the church is concerned that these foreign allies whom caused the curse upon them might attempt to convert their desperate population to the heathen ways of Elune. Accepting all people from all professions that may work towards the light, the Reverend Mother wishes to see her people united under a single banner of the Light to vanquish the vile Forsaken and any other foes who might stand in the way of the Worgen’s curing themselves.

The Church’s views are strictly nationalist. Whilst the Alliance is an important part of their lives as of now, the church will tolerate no changing of Gilnean tradition and the instability of the Monarchy has shaken the Church to it’s core. The mind-set of a faithful gilnean is the retaking, rebuilding and the curing of Gilneas all whilst revering the Holy Light. The classes accepted into the Church are Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Priest and Mage. The Church is founded on the virtues of the light but it is not necessary for the members to have to wield the light. Druids and Warlocks are barred for obvious reasons. The Church’s view on the Worgen Form is rather difficult to put into words. Whilst it observes that in combat the form is essential to take on, it has the strict belief that in public the form should be shed.

OOC:
The Church of Gilneas is based around (yes, you guessed it) religious practice of the Holy Light. Whilst some may find their strength in Elune and allowed the Kaldorei's practices to rub off on them, the church none the less stands unwavering in its duty to both the Gilnean people and the Holy Light. The group is formed primarily for priest characters, although a (very) small number of paladins will be accepted in the form of uninfected gilneans however this may, or may not, be changed at a later time.

--------------------

Civilians

The invasion of gilneas had left many refugees fleeing for the safety offered by the kingdoms new allies the Kaldorei. Many of these citizens took up the offer of their allies and remain within Darnassus, others have followed Genn Greymane across the ocean and to the kingdom of stormwind, forming settlements such as Surwich. There are of course those who would not be so quick to abandon their home, families, craftsmen and farmers, choosing to follow the King's Armies and return to their country. Whilst the sounds of war surround them, the stubborn yet determined citizens of gilneas will not be driven from their lively hoods by shambling carcasses.

OOC:
Civilians are kind of the 'everything else' group within our guild, but do not assume that they are merely a tacked on edition too it. Civilians have a much greater degree of freedom in how they wish to take their character, for example whilst a soldier or druid is fairly clear cut in what they do, and how they roleplay, the civilian is kind of a blank slate that can be taken in any direction. Innkeeper, beggar, blacksmith, doctor, hedge wizard, the possibilities are unlimited in what you might do with your character - It is down to your imagination, with some common sense thrown in of course. Unsure of what class or group you wish to dedicate yourself too? Then the civilians are a good way of observing how they and their roleplay works.

------------------------------------

RECRUITMENT

Until the launch of the Cataclysm expansion pack on the 7th of December, the only way to join The Greymane Era is to register and then apply on our website/forums. The process is simple and the application easy enough, but enough for us to judge you suitable to join us even if I sound rather elitist saying that. After the launch of the expansion we will also be allowing you to to join us in-game via both roleplaying and brief out-of-character discussions.

Thank you for taking the time to read our thread. Please be aware that both this thread, the website and the guild in general are still a work-in-progress with many elements being tweaked and added.

This is VERY interesting. I will most likely apply to this with my own worgen - once I figure out exactly what he'll be.

Felt we should toss up a Realm Forum thread before the masses throw out their half-arsed "i wunt 2 b a leadr" tosh as Cataclysm draws classes.

Just a question.
This project is very nice, very well build, very well thought. But also this project is really engolbing..everything. I mean by that, that everyone who role play a worgen should actualy be in this guild. Not only because the project is good, but because it's logical.
So my question is : for worgen role players who doesn't choose to join this guild, because they want join another one for diverse reasons, will you open your guild events to those players so they can have a "proper" worgen rp experience? I'm thinking particulary to players who join social guild or multiracial guilds.

I don't see why not. We're aiming to create a proper roleplaying hub out of Gilneas, not so much an "Exclusive guild playhouse" - On the flip side however, those who make up a fancy, high, title for themselves outside of the guild will likely be taken less seriously. I am of course speaking of those who slap the "Master Blood Knight", "Noble of Greymane House" on themselves for example.

In a sense, I like to think of the guild similar to say.. the Circle of Darnassus - Whilst there are those main guilds (Winterblades, Natures Grasp, etc) who form the bulk, they are always advertised and open for Kaldorei roleplayers who wish to take part.

I like where this is going.

Anyhow, updated the Church of Gilneas section with Anaei's contribution, and thus now we're looking for a nice fellow (or, well, gal) to oversee our arcanist section seeing as how Vectoria ran off.

Hmm...

I like the idea of a unified guild. Even if I often play as a lone rider, erm, wolf, thing. HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWL.

But, I think I'll PM you with something.

I have some ideas about my char, some changes from the "gentleman gambler" I had as one idea anyway...

Not sure they'd fit with you.

Will see.
